Instrumentation:
Andrew sings and plays the guitar. If there's a piano available, he'd love to play it.
Biography:
When Andrew Gregory realized that songs were taking over his life, he left college, put his guitar in a closet, and tried to run away. When asked why a talented young songwriter would attempt to escape his fate, Andrew responds: "A musician's life is a tough life, so I decided to avoid it at all costs." Despite his efforts to dodge his destiny, his songs and his talent chased him around the world. When Vietnamese monks heard him humming in their monastery, they made Andrew sing them a concert. As he milked goats in the mountains of France, his boss heard music in his buckets and started inviting friends to his farm just so they could hear him sing. Anywhere he traveled, his friends and hosts would find a guitar and beg him to sing. Eventually Andrew just gave in. He returned to the States by way of Waffle House, finished his degree at Swarthmore College, and began to write, record, and tour with his whole heart.
His music, which catches audiences' ears only a little faster than it captures their hearts, has been compared the music of Paul Simon, John Prine, Tom Waits, and James Taylor. He has just moved to beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia (the folk capital of the south), and is currently celebrating the release of his debut self-titled album, which features the production and performance of Andrew's friend and teacher, Tom Prasada-Rao. He tours East Coast playing listening rooms, bars, coffee houses, and colleges

Movin' On
Andrew Gregory Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't know why the roads so long or how it seems to me so strong I just know I have to go
I'm sorry if you thought that I was gonna stay but I know you and I will both be by
Maybe we'll both be lonely once I've gone away but I've got to keep on movin' on
You always treated me so fine that I don't know why that I would ever want to leave
Don't cry baby don't cry I might turn around and find myself back here
I'm sorry if you thought that I was gonna stay but I know you and I will both be by
Maybe we'll both be lonely once I've gone away but I've got to keep on movin' on
So I don't know what you could have said I don't know what you could have done to make me stay
I don't know why the roads so long or why it seems to me so strong I just know I have to go
I'm sorry if you thought that I was gonna stay but I know you and I will both get by
Maybe we'll both be lonely once I've gone away but I've got to keep on movin' on
But I've got to keep on movin' on
The lyrics to Andrew Gregory's song "Movin' On" depict a situation where the singer has to leave someone they care about, even though they don't want to. The first few lines express uncertainty about the reasons that led to the decision to leave, which suggests that maybe it was a difficult one to make. However, the singer repeats the idea that they have to go, indicating that they have already made up their mind. The second verse adds some complexity to the situation, as the singer acknowledges that the person they are leaving treated them well and that they don't know why they would ever want to leave.
But despite that, the singer can't stay and has to keep on moving on. The chorus offers a glimpse into the consequences of this decision: both the singer and the person they leave behind might end up feeling lonely, but the singer still feels they have to go. In the last lines, the singer addresses the argument that being out of sight might lead to being out of mind, but they counter it by saying that love is blind, implying that love can persist even when someone is physically far away.
The lyrics to "Movin' On" offer a relatable story to anyone who has had to make the tough decision to leave someone they care about, but also remind us that sometimes, we just have to do what feels right for ourselves, even if it's not what we want.

Weight of love on my shoulders
I thought that it would be easier than this
I thought my heart had grown colder
But the warmth of your kiss, I can't dismiss
Though my past has left me bruised
I ain't hiding from the truth
When the truth won't let me lie right next to you
But it's holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it
It keeps holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to break it
Heaven knows that I can't shake it
Holding on
Holding on
Holding on
Holding on
I've seen times that were harder
I remember the taste of bitterness
Won't you help me, my father?
Help me fall in the love that I have missed
Though my past has left me bruised
I ain't hiding from the truth
When the truth won't let me lie right next to you
But it's holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it
It keeps holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to break it
Heaven knows that I can't shake it
Whoa
Whoa
Holding on
Holding on
But it's holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to make it
Played the part, but I can't fake it
It keeps holding on
And it's holding strong
Even though I tried to break it
Heaven knows that I can't shake it
Holding on
Holding on
It keeps holding on
It keeps holding on
It keeps holding on
Holding on
