Show Me
Andrews Julie Lyrics

Words Words Words
I'm so sick of words
I get words all day through
First from him, now from you
Is that all you blighters can do

Don't talk of stars
Burning above
If you're in love
Show me

Tell me no dreams
Filled with desire
If you're on fire
Show me

He we are together
In the middle of the night
Don't talk of spring
Just hold me tight

Anyone who's ever been
In love'll tell you that
This is no time
For a chat

Haven't your lips
Longed for my touch
Don't say how much
Show me, show me

Don't talk of love

Lasting through time
Make me no undying vow
Show me now

Sing me no song
Read me no rhyme
Don't waste my time
Show me

Don't talk of June
Don't talk of fall
Don't talk at all
Show me

Never do I ever
want to hear another word
There isn't one
I haven't heard

Here we are together in
What ought to be a dream
Say another word
And I'll scream

Haven't your arms
Hungered for mine
Please don't explain
Show me, show me

Don't wait until
Wrinkles and lines

Pop out of my brow
Show me now

Overall Meaning

The song "Show Me" by Andrews Julie is a classic Broadway tune that speaks about the frustration of hearing empty words from those around us. The singer of the song is tired of hearing nothing but words, especially from people who claim to love them. They are looking for real action and physical affection instead of gestures made of mere words. The song's refrain, "Show me," is a plea for sincerity and authenticity, rather than the empty promises and superficial declarations that the singer has become sick of hearing.

The song's verses are a warning to anyone who would try to woo the singer with flowery language and romantic cliches. The singer has heard it all before, and they are not interested in hearing any more. They want their lover to stop talking and start making real moves toward physical intimacy. They want to feel their lover's touch, to sense their hunger and desire, and to know that they are genuinely in love. The line "haven't your arms hungered for mine" is a particularly evocative and sensual image that captures the singer's longing for tactile connection.

Her diction is impeccable and I can understand every word she said. No other singer tries to do that that I can find, combine that with a beautiful voice and it's timeless

@TheSoundsage

If you want to see a future British star emerging from her chrysalis, type Millicent Blair in the search window.

Alexis Erickson
Barbara Cook had the same talent and you understood every word she sang too .For me she was as great as Dame Julie but not as well known because she didnt make movies.

The guy had to be a real athlete to perform all those bumbling moves and falls, so perfectly timed in the choreography with Julie Andrews, who is utterly enchanting as Eliza. You can't help but wonder what she would have brought to the role if she were cast in the film, although Audrey Hepburn was fabulous in her own way as well.

@BrennanYoung

@calidahill3374

I love the aggressiveness of this vs the audrey Hepburn version

@Shamsithaca

Did you guys catch Marry Poppins smash the leather luggage onto the street and magically correct itself upright? She knows magic, I tell you.

@TheJulieAndrewsArchive

Yup, I think she was in still in training at that point.
