Line by Line Meaning
Verse 1:
Beginning of the song
I don't want to lie,
I am admitting to a truth
But I don't want to tell the truth either,
I am afraid of the consequences that may follow
So I'm gonna tell you just enough,
I'll disclose some information but not all of it
To make you see things my way.
To manipulate you into agreeing with me
Chorus:
Recurring section of the song
Only a whisper,
I'll say it quietly, hoping not to be heard
Only a whisper,
I'll say it softly, hoping not to draw attention
But it's all that needs to be said,
What I say will have a significant impact, despite its lack of volume
'Cause you know, and I know,
We both understand the implications of what I am saying
Exactly what it means.
There is no misinterpreting the message
Verse 2:
Continuation of the song
You can say what you like,
You are free to express your opinion
But I won't be sticking around to hear it,
I do not want to engage in debate or confrontation
I'm already halfway out the door,
I am ready to leave, physically or emotionally
And I won't be looking back.
I am moving on and will not be affected by your response
Chorus:
Recurring section of the song
Only a whisper,
I'll say it quietly, hoping not to be heard
Only a whisper,
I'll say it softly, hoping not to draw attention
But it's all that needs to be said,
What I say will have a significant impact, despite its lack of volume
'Cause you know, and I know,
We both understand the implications of what I am saying
Exactly what it means.
There is no misinterpreting the message
Bridge:
Musical section of the song with different lyrics
Sometimes words are too much,
There are times when words are ineffective or harmful
And actions can say so much more,
Nonverbal communication often has greater impact
But in this case,
Regarding this particular situation
Words are all I've got.
My only means of expression are through language
Chorus:
Recurring section of the song
Only a whisper,
I'll say it quietly, hoping not to be heard
Only a whisper,
I'll say it softly, hoping not to draw attention
But it's all that needs to be said,
What I say will have a significant impact, despite its lack of volume
'Cause you know, and I know,
We both understand the implications of what I am saying
Exactly what it means.
There is no misinterpreting the message

Ending of the song
Only a whisper,
Final repetition of the chorus
Only a whisper,
Final repetition of the chorus
Only a whisper,
Final repetition of the chorus
