And now, the end is near
Now that the end of my life is approaching

And so I face my final curtain
I face the final moments of my life

I've lived a life that's full
I've had a satisfying life

I've traveled each and every highway
I've experienced everything life had to offer

But more, much more than this

Regrets, I've had a few
I've made some mistakes that I regret

But then again, too few to mention
But there were so few that they don't bear mentioning

I did what I had to do
I did what was necessary

and saw it through without exemption
And I didn't let anything stop me from seeing it through

I planned each charted course
I carefully planned my path

each careful step along the byway
And I was very intentional with each step along the way

And more, much more than this
And above everything else

I did it my way
I made sure to do things on my own terms

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you know
I'm sure you're aware of the times when things got tough

When I bit off more than I could chew
When I took on more than I could handle

But through it all, when there was doubt
But despite any doubt that may have crept in

I ate it up and spit it out
I took it on and overcame it easily

I faced it all and I stood tall
I bravely faced every challenge and came out strong

And did it my way
I did things on my own terms

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've experienced the highs and lows of life

I've had my fill, my share of losing
I've experienced my fair share of failures

And now, as tears subside
And now that I'm at the end of my life and my emotions are calming

I find it all so amusing
I find it all quite humorous

To think I did all that
To think I accomplished all of that

And may I say, not in a shy way
And let me say it boldly

I've always done things on my own terms

For what is a man, what has he got
Because really, what is the purpose of life?

If not himself, then he has naught
If he's not true to himself, then he has nothing

To say the things he truly feels
To speak honestly and from the heart

And not the words of one who kneels
And not just the words of someone trying to please others

The record shows I took the blows
My life experiences show that I've taken the hits

And did it my way
And I've always done things on my own terms
