1) A southern boy at heart, Andy Davis works with what he knows best: charm. Quirky, clever, talented and tender, Andy writes music to make you look for a soft hand to hold. With a movie-maker's eye for storytelling, he shows that every glimpse in life tells a story and that every saga must be distilled into vignettes. Andy is a rare talent: an unplugged Whiskeytown-era Ryan Adams crossed with a latter-day Billy Joel, without the self-destructive tendencies of either. Surprisingly soulful for a young man whose peers spend more time cruising than crooning, Andy Davis writes songs that make us remember things too important to have forgotten: incomprehensible faith, the torture of deep emotion, and belief in boundless possibilities. Everyone rushes past these quiet monoliths on our way through young adulthood, and Andy's music makes us want to go back and find them. His songs make you remember your firsts: first kiss, first love, first date, first heartbreak. It's the accessibility of Andy's agony and ecstasy that makes you feel what it's like to be a poet. Life becomes less complicated when we grasp the essence of true living. The music of Andy Davis beckons like a whisper through the cacophony of smooth snake oil vendors. It's uncorrupted rawness, genuine and unpretentious -- authenticity unencumbered by fake industry.
Born in Louisiana and later migrating with his family to the southeast, Andy grew up listening to oldies and gospel music before moving to Nashville for college. With musical influences from David Wilcox to Stevie Wonder to Radiohead to Rufus Wainwright, it's no surprise that Andy writes like a poet, plays a slew of instruments (from drum kit to trumpet), and rocks out on stage. Runway Network is currently promoting Andy's independent album titled, "Thinks of Her."
2) Andy Davis (born Andrew Cresswell-Davis 10 August 1949) is a music producer, member of Stackridge , former member of The Korgis. Stackridge are a West Country based group who were at the height of their success, such as it was, during the 1970s but are reformed and still playing today. Davis, who lives in Bath, was also in The Korgis - a British pop band, originally composed of singer / bassist James Warren (born 25 August 1951, Bristol) and singer / drummer Davis, along with unofficial members guitarist Stuart Gordon and keyboardist Phil Harrison. Davis has also played with Goldfrapp. He played acoustic guitar and sang backing vocals on John Lennon's Imagine album.
Good Life
Andy Davis Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
yeah i woke up at lunch time
went to bed about sunrise and i might
do it again
last night we were downtown
just some boys getting too loud
trying to find us a good crowd
whichever door would let us in
don't know when we're leaving
but you can bet we'll be gone this evening
it's a good life
a good life
a good night to be alive
we earned a degree in
chasing vanderbilt women
and learned us a lesson
sometimes a poor boy can't win
we struggle to pay rent
cause jeans are expensive
professional children, it's just this
way that we live
forget that job that deadline
your friends are here, they can
help remind you it's a
great time
no need to pretend
well, i'm not saying it's easy
sometimes it can become sleazy
but when we're old and we're greasy
we'll look back and grin
don't know when we're leaving
but you can bet we'll be gone this evening
it's a good life
a good life
a good night to be alive
The lyrics of Andy Davis's song Good Life are an ode to living in the moment, seizing the day, and enjoying the present with friends, regardless of the challenges or difficulties that life may present. The opening lines, "This morning was alright, yeah I woke up at lunch time, went to bed about sunrise and I might do it again," set the tone for the song, suggesting that the singer is living a carefree and spontaneous lifestyle without worrying too much about the consequences. Later on, the lines "Forget that job that deadline, your friends are here they can help remind you it's a great time, no need to pretend" reinforce this idea, emphasizing the importance of spending time with loved ones and prioritizing relationships over work or responsibilities.
The song also touches on themes of identity and self-discovery. The line "We earned a degree in chasing Vanderbilt women and learned us a lesson, sometimes a poor boy can't win" highlights the struggle of trying to fit in or be successful in a world that often seems stacked against those without privilege or connections. Despite these obstacles, however, the singer finds solace and joy in the company of his friends, celebrating the good times and leaving the worries of the future for another day.
Overall, the song is an upbeat and heartfelt tribute to the joys of living in the moment and appreciating the good things in life, no matter how small or temporary.
