He is perhaps best known as a regular contributor to "Lick Library", a dealer of guitar tuition videos, books and cds, where James specialises in teaching lead techniques for heavy rock and metal. Aside from this, James has also recorded solo albums in the wake of chaos, machine and andy james and is a member of the band sacred mother tongue. In his solo recordings Andy exhibits a predominant influence of Joe Satriani as well as other comparable guitar legends. His music is also influenced by metalcore bands, for ex. "in the wake of chaos" is IMO andy's 2nd or 1st best album, and the whole reason why i became an andy james fan in the 1st place. he should really think about redoing the entire album, but this time with emg pickups.

I think he is using a prototype of EMG active pickups that isnt available yet similar to the EMG 57/66 that he used a lot

I must be very old as I don't understand this excitement about Andy. I mean he has a great technique, no question about that. And I'm not here to talk who is better or worst guitarist, because it's not a competition, but to me personally, this is nothing next to things like Marty Friedman "Dragon's Kiss" or Jason Becker "Altitudes". I'm sorry if I'm hurting someone feelings, but I see a robot playing guitar here, not a human full of emotions. Maybe this excitement is following the rule about society being more and more introvert now days. Have a nice day and a lot of fun with music.

I'm a fan of AJ but i don't like all his songs. I think it's true for most other musicians, they write some really good songs, some mediocre ones and just bad songs in general. But there are some AJ songs that I really like. Maybe you can try (1) Lost without you (2) ever after (3) shine on through (4) gone (5) days gone by (6) never give up (7) victory. Those are my favourite ones and they have some catchy melodic motifs in the chorus and some nice solos both fast and slow. Just my two cents.

Marcin Wojtaszczyk ...to me shred can be any genre and any instrument.( think bluegrass/ jazz guitar classical etc...) Shredding Its just virtuosity, or a command of an intrument. ( classical m usic has been shredding for centuries!)..That why it was tapped into for the earlier shred guys like yngwie and Becker etc. Later is was thrown a curve ball by guys like Vai etc...Now we find ourselves with the latest ..Djent style..which although im an older guy too, I think it's pretty awesome. (They shred with single notes as well but have encorporate unique chords mixed In. sort of like playing leads but with chords. Shred will probably continue to evolve but I don't want it to change too much, cause I like it the way it is now even with some different styles. For me virtuosity is what I like, but obviously "slower" and maybe not as complicated music is good too. In general..to sum it up..YOUTUBE has been an awesome outlet for people like me. I come from a time where record companies decided what you will listen to, and I would never have gotten to listen to things I can listen to now!. ( that's probably why I'm a little "sensitive " to some comments about shred and some shredders which Andy James is one one of my favorites....lol)..but again everybody has there own opinion and that's ok too.

Arch Karr - I don't understand actually your way of seeing it. What I mean is, I feel like you're saying "if there is a lot of notes, there is not much room for feelings". And you're referring to blues stuff only as the genre with feelings, well any other genre can be full of feelings too. Maybe I've expressed myself not in the best way I could have done it in a first place - I've should say "I see Andy James restraining 'a little' from his real feelings when he's playing" instead of me saying "There is no feelings in his music". He's body language says that. He seems like a person with a lot more energy in himself than he releases thru his notes and music.

Let's see..shred. .yes it must have some feeling in it but also..A LOT OF NOTES AND "shredding"....I think most of those comments about emotions and "feeling " are from people that just don't get it and they sho u ld listen to something else ...like maybe some BB KING.. (ALL THE FEELING THEY CAN STAND WITH ONE STRING!)...We finally have a way of listening to something else besides the music that record companies decide we should listen to. You Tube..the best thing to happen to those of us who enjoy virtuoso style playing (of any style actually) that's not just for dancing. The "feeling and emotion is there for those of us who "get it"...we are emotional and have "feelings" for ..yes you guessed it..SHRED!.. (and f*** Marty Friedman for denying his shred heritage)..embrace it! Shred on!
