Hear My Heart
Andy Mineo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's kinda crazy, it's kinda crazy that your name is Grace
Your name is Grace
'Cause that's what I need, that's what I need right now in this crazy place
It's crazy, crazy, crazy
It's not that I did somethin', it's the fact that I didn't
And I'm so ashamed it took twenty-five years just to get it
'Cause people made fun, and I just laughed with 'em
But that was me as a child
I just pray you forgive me

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

I remember your son graduation
That's when I met your friends
And they was all havin' conversation
But they was sayin' stuff that I couldn't understand
Then all of a sudden it felt like, I understood something I missed my whole life
For the first time I was wearin' your shoes
For the first time I was hearin' your views
I never knew how complicated life is when you feel so isolated
And I know we don't speak much
'Cause when talking got hard all I ever did was throw the peace up
My big sister Grace, I'm sorry I never learned to sign
And even though you were born deaf
I pray you forgive me for the years I lived blind

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

Sometimes, sometimes these words aren't enough
So let me show you, let me show you
Sometimes, sometimes these words aren't enough
So let me show you, let me show you
It's kinda crazy

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na

Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
Hear my heart

Overall Meaning

The song "Hear My Heart" by Andy Mineo is a heartfelt cry for forgiveness and understanding. The lyrics tell the story of Mineo's realization that he has been ignorant and insensitive towards others, particularly his sister Grace who is deaf. He asks for her forgiveness and admits that he has been blind to her experiences.

The opening lines of the song emphasize the power of the name of Grace, which Mineo recognizes as something he needs in his life. He confesses that he has not done something wrong, but rather failed to understand and empathize with others. He is ashamed that it took him so long to realize this, but he asks for forgiveness and hopes that his sister can understand him.

In the second verse, Mineo recounts a moment when he witnessed a graduation and met his sister's friends. He realized that he had missed out on understanding their conversations before, and that he had never attempted to learn sign language to communicate with his sister. He asks for her forgiveness for the years he "lived blind" and promises to show her that he cares, even if words are not enough.

Overall, "Hear My Heart" is a powerful and emotional plea for understanding and forgiveness. It touches on themes of ignorance and empathy, and encourages listeners to take the time to understand and appreciate those around them.

This song is so deep. I went to Winter Jam 2017 in Memphis last night, and until then I had never fully understood the message. He wrote the song for his sister, Grace, who had been deaf her whole life. listening to in live, the words sunk in, and it had a deeper meaning. He had a blind eye to his sister and didn't understand how much of miracle it was to be able to hear. We do the same thing but with God. If we open our eyes to him and get rid of our "Blind Eye" then we will also have a miracle. We will no longer suffer. I'm not a saint, and yes I'm a sinner. But if I can turn my life around from the drinking and smoking, the cussing and fighting, the adultery, the idolatry, then you too can do it. All we have to do is open our eyes and pour out our heart. Our God will listen to what we have to say, and he will forgive us.
