Hold me
Andy Summers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sleeping, I grow cold
Somewhere dreams unfold
There's a light outside
Shining down
Through my window
'cross this town

Evening
Stars will be
From my window
I can see
Through the light
Love came in

Light outside, light outside
When you
Hold me
I will know
Heart beats
Overflow

And the light outside
Falls on me
From my window
I can see
Through the light
Love came in

Sleeping, I grow cold
Somewhere dreams unfold
There's a light outside
Shining down

Through my window
'cross this town

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hold Me" by Andy Summers evoke the feeling of longing for love and the comfort it brings. The track opens with the singer's melancholic mood as he sleeps and grows cold. The second line creates a dreamlike atmosphere, signifying that he is in a state of reflection on the memory of love. As the chorus comes in, there are nostalgic yearnings for companionship, with the light shining outside through the window, symbolically representing hope. Through the light, the singer can see love coming back into his life, as they are filled with a sense of joy and passion.

The second verse continues to emphasize the singer's dreamy and romantic nature, discussing how the stars will be at evening when he can see through his window. The singer places much importance on this light, as it is a reminder that someone loves him and their love fills his heart to the brim. As the chorus comes in again, there is a sense of relief as the light falls on him, metaphorically meaning the love he yearned for has arrived. The same feelings of security and comfort from the chorus are repeated, emphasizing that the singer's desire is to be held and love to overflow.

Overall, the song delivers a powerful message about love and the hope it brings. The light that shines through the window represents the spark that ignites the flame of love in one's heart. The singer's desperation for love is palpable in the lyrics as they seek to be held and loved. The chorus serves as a reminder that love is a powerful force that cannot be ignored.

My 2 favourite bands as a teenager were DEVO & The Police, so when I saw this was recorded at DEVO studios & engineered by a member of DEVO my heart skipped a beat. Great album.

So beautiful. My first real love introduced me to this album, and it always reminds me of her and those days of such youth; college-age idealism that allowed us to be "swept away" by the idea of romantic love that was very real to us, though neither of us knew it wouldn't last. Life can break your heart that way, but the lesson learned is forever because it becomes part of who you are, for good or for bad; it's up to you. Idealism for wisdom: fair trade or not?

This was a fantastic album by Andy.

Andy does a nice job on vocals with this one. This one sounds like it could have been a cool Police song (if Sting had not been such a prick and broke up the band). I could have seen this one at the end of side two on Synchronicity or perhaps side 1 of Ghost in the Machine.

Brilliant song!

sadetwizelve

Different from anything else I've heard from Andy.

dropway9

This sounds more like it could be on a Peter Gabriel album - sort of.
