Mustang Sally
Andy Taylor Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Guess you better slow your Mustang down
Mustang Sally, baby
I guess you better slow your Mustang down
You been runnin' all over town
Guess I'll have to put your flat feet on the ground
All you want to do is ride around Sally (Ride Sally Ride)
All you want to do is ride around Sally (Ride Sally Ride)
All you want to do is ride around Sally (Ride Sally Ride)
One of these early mornings
I'm gonna be wipin' your weepin' eyes
I bought you a brand new Mustang
By Nineteen-Sixty-Five
Now you comin' right signifying woman
You don't want to let me ride
Mustang Sally
Guess you better slow your Mustang down
The lyrics of "Mustang Sally" by Andy Taylor tell a story about a woman who is constantly running around in her Mustang, which annoys the singer who is telling her to slow down. The repetition of the chorus, "All you want to do is ride around Sally (Ride Sally Ride)" emphasizes the singer's frustration with her behavior. He then warns her that she needs to slow down her car and stop being so reckless, or else he will have to teach her a lesson by "putting her flat feet on the ground." The singer also hints that Sally is not faithful and that he will soon leave her.
The song's meaning can be interpreted in several ways. On the surface level, it could be seen as a simple warning to a reckless driver. However, many people consider the song to be a metaphor for Sally's wild and promiscuous behavior. The singer seems to be fed up with Sally's constant cheating and casual attitude towards their relationship. He warns her that if she continues at this rate, she will end up alone, represented by the phrase "I'm gonna be wipin' your weepin' eyes."
