Anelis Assumpção is a brazilian singer, songwriter and percussionist. She is currently recording her first CD.
With the sagacity of those who sing in the fluency of the best bar conversations, the daughter of Itamar Assumpção find the right spot to soak in a mixture of uncompromising poetry (probable paternal inheritance) with a balance of samba, reggae, hip hop and the so-called avant-garde in São Paulo.
The major tone of voice and her almost theatrical interpretation, value the letters of her own songs.
Simple and comfortable, some of the verses sounds familiar, as fragments of a conversation or dialogue balloon in a HQ read in the newspaper that made you laugh at breakfast.
The feminine swaying elegantly echoes the work of Anelis Assumpção.

Você não foi na feira não
É de segunda a sexta
É de segunda a sexta
De segunda a sexta
Eu fui sozinha pra te ver
Alguém pegou na tua mão
Meu coração na cesta
Coração na cesta
Minha fruteira está vazia
Burocracia mandou avisar
Tão insalubre que essa vida anda
Com dia e hora para te encontrar
Na terça e quinta antes das seis
Mas sábado e domingo não
É de segunda a sexta
É de segunda a sexta
De segunda a sexta
Eu fui a pé só pra te ver
Você pegou um avião
É de ponta-cabeça
É de ponta-cabeça
De ponta-cabeça
A domingueira está vazia
Burocracia mandou avisar
Tão insalubre que essa vida puta
Marcando hora pra te respirar
Eu sou a feira pra você
Pastel, banana e limão
É o resto da xêpa
É o resto da xêpa
Resto da xêpa
Eu vou na feira pra te ver
Mas sábado e domingo não, não, não, não
É de segunda a sexta
Segunda a sexta
Segunda a sexta
The lyrics of Anelis Assumpção's song "Segunda a Sexta" convey a story of unrequited love and the frustration that comes with it. The singer expresses their efforts to see someone they care about, going to the market to catch a glimpse of them, only to find that the person doesn't show up. The repetition of the days of the week emphasizes the routine and monotony of their longing, highlighting the sadness and disappointment in not being able to connect with the person they desire.
The imagery of the singer going to the market alone to see this person, only to witness someone else holding their hand, symbolizes the heartache and jealousy they feel. The mention of the heart being in a basket conveys a sense of vulnerability and fragility, as if their feelings are out in the open for anyone to see and potentially hurt. The absence of the person they long for leaves their "fruteira" (fruit bowl) empty, a metaphor for the lack of fulfillment and nourishment in their life due to this unrequited love.
The lyrics also touch upon themes of bureaucracy and restrictions in daily life, with references to set times and days to meet the person they desire. The frustration of having to adhere to these constraints adds to the overall sense of suffocation and futility in trying to make a connection with the person. The comparison of life to being unhealthy and marked by restrictions further emphasizes the oppressive nature of their situation.
The last verse brings a shift in perspective, with the singer likening themselves to a market stall offering pastries, bananas, and lemons to the person they care for. The notion of being the "resto da xêpa" (leftovers) suggests a sense of resignation and acceptance of their role in the other person's life. The repeated refrain of "Segunda a Sexta" throughout the song serves as a reminder of the limited opportunities and the cyclical nature of their unfulfilled longing, encapsulating the feelings of longing, loss, and resignation in the face of unrequited love.
