Safe Haven
Angelic Upstarts Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sneaking in the daylight, crawling throught the night
Why do they always follow, for their ultimate prize
Did you ever have a mother?
Did you ever have a son?
Would they like to see you and what you have become?

Planting all your evil, with the seeds of your filth
Why do they always end up, in the street ehere I live
Let them live on water,
Surrounded by the sounds,
Of the deeds that they have done drowning in their scum

Never live in Chelsea, or the backyards of the rich
Just working class mothers, and you tortue our kids

Safe haven for the wicked
No justice fo the poor
Are kids are put in danger
For the benefit or Who?
A man has a choice of neighbours
But his friends are few

Democratic decisions
By the man in black

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Angelic Upstarts’ song “Safe Haven” talks about the corruptness and unfairness of the society prevailing in the world. The song explores the hardship and misery experienced by working-class mothers who are left with nowhere to turn for help as they are often exploited by the rich and powerful people. The lyrics suggest that despite the wickedness of some people, they seem to find a safe haven and face no punishment for their actions. Meanwhile, innocent people continue to suffer.

The song infers that people with power and wealth are responsible for the problems that the working-class people face. These people plant evil and indulge in wrongdoings, which inevitably leads them to the streets where the commoners reside. They use their riches and influence to exploit and torture the lower class, and when the time comes, they can easily find a safe haven to escape any repercussions for their unethical deeds. The lyrics reflect the agony of the people who live in these conditions and the injustice that prevails in the society.

Overall, “Safe Haven” is a bold commentary on the unfairness and injustice in society, highlighting the perils faced by working-class mothers who have no choice but to endure the cruelties of the rich and powerful. The lyrics call for change and an end to corruption and exploitation that continue to plague the underprivileged people.
