Burn them away
Fire up your demons
And go dancing with the flames
Sing an old song
That sounds the same
Go paint your mask on
You don't fool me anyway
It's so simple...
I watch you blend in
As colors melt
One in a million
Just like everybody else
Are you a number?
Or are you a name?
Pen on the paper
You just signed your life away
There's an art to being vain
It's so simple
The lyrics of Angie Miller's song Simple speak about the superficiality of people and how they tend to hide their true selves behind a mask of fake persona. The opening lines "Pick up your pieces, Burn them away, Fire up your demons, And go dancing with the flames" showcase how people try to bury their past and move on with their lives by indulging in their inner demons. The song urges people to sing an old song that sounds the same and paint their masks on, but ultimately it reveals that they deceive no one but themselves, and there's an art to being fake.
The song highlights how people tend to blend in with the crowd, losing their individuality in the process. Lines like "One in a million, Just like everybody else, Are you a number? Or are you a name?" showcase how they aspire to be special, yet paradoxically, they end up becoming just like everyone else. The lyrics emphasize the significance of social acceptance while highlighting the drawbacks of the same. The song ends with the statement "It's so simple" emphasizing how the process of putting on a fake persona is easy yet deceptive.
