Yang Yang
Anika Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yang Yang holds on to a giant phone
Yang Yang's soft voice goes on and on
I hate you, I hate you, where did it go wrong?
Yang Yang goes talking to himself on the phone

Yang Yang sends his men pebbles and stones
Yang Yang rips his women down to the bones
I own you, I own you, so give us a song
Yang Yang goes talking to his world on the phone

Yang Yang's born with phone cord 'round his neck
Yang Yang never fails to stick to his kick
I want you, I want you, you're making me sick
But Yang Yang
The chord's never long enough to reach your mommy's kick

Yang Yang Yang, Yang Yang
Yang Yang Yang, Yang Yang
Yang Yang, snap out
Give up, cut out
[Incomprehensible] out and join us
Join the revolution

Yang Yang Yang, Yang Yang
Yang Yang Yang, Yang Yang
Yang Yang, snap out
Give up, cut out

[Incomprehensible] out and join us
Join the revolution

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Anika's song "Yang Yang" tell a story of a man named Yang Yang who seems to be struggling with communication and control. He holds on to a giant phone, using it as a tool to talk to himself and his world. Yang Yang seems to have power over both men and women, owning them and demanding songs. However, his need for control leads him to harsh methods, ripping women down to the bones and sending men pebbles and stones. Yang Yang is presented as a troubled character, born with a phone cord around his neck and unable to let go of his obsessive behavior.

The lyrics seem to be a commentary on the destructive nature of obsession and control. The phone serves as both a tool of communication and a symbol of Yang Yang's unhealthy attachment. His need for power and control leads him to mistreat others and ultimately harms himself. The repeated plea to "snap out" and "join the revolution" suggests that the song is a call to break from destructive patterns of behavior and embrace change and growth.

This is a cover of one of Yoko Ono's song, and she was an influential woman who was once wed to John Lennon of the Beatles. One of the guys who formed this band, Anika, was previously of the band Portishead. Those of you who like to just call things "weird" will never get anywhere in life. Tyler sent you here because he is clearly a creative open minded being who is able to accept all sorts of styles, and he is successful because of it.
