The band members met in school and started recording together in various forms of collaboration from a young age. Stop looking at me, think I'm ugly
For I'm in bed and she's asleep
Stop looking at me, look on my grave
The lyrics of Animal Collective's song "I See You Pan" convey feelings of vulnerability and insecurity. The opening line "I see you Pan, up in a tree" refers to the Greek god Pan, who is often depicted as a faun or satyr living in the woods. The faun, a figure of wildness and sensuality, symbolizes the primal and animalistic nature within us. The line "Stop looking at me, think I'm ugly" suggests that the singer is uncomfortable with being seen as vulnerable and exposed.
As the song progresses, the singer reveals that he is in bed next to a sleeping lover, indicating a moment of intimacy and vulnerability. The line "Stop looking at me, look on my grave" can be interpreted in many ways, but it suggests that the singer wants to be seen as someone worthy of respect and admiration even after he is gone. Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of inner turmoil and insecurity that comes with trying to reconcile our primal desires with our desire for love and acceptance.
