Animals as Leaders was formed "out of the ashes" of guitarist Tosin Abasi's previous band, Reflux. The heavy metal record label Prosthetic Records saw Abasi's guitar work and asked him to create a solo album for them. Abasi initially declined, feeling such an endeavor would be "egotistical and unnecessary". When Reflux disbanded, Abasi decided to take the label's offer. The name Animals as Leaders was inspired by Daniel Quinn's 1992 novel Ishmael, which addresses anthropocentrism. Abasi coined the name as a reminder "that we're all essentially animals".
The project's first album, Animals as Leaders, was recorded in early 2008. Abasi recorded all guitar and bass tracks on the album; drums and various synthesized effects were programmed by engineer Misha Mansoor. The album was released April 28, 2009 by Prosthetic Records.
Their second album, Weightless, was released November 8, 2011, with the addition of Javier Reyes and Navene Koperweis on rhythm guitar and drums, respectively. After touring in support of the record, it was announced that Navene Koperweis would be leaving the band. He was replaced by Matt Garstka for further touring duties.
It was announced in late December of 2012 that Animals As Leaders had signed a deal with Sumerian Records, who will release the band's next album in 2013. The album was produced by Misha Mansoor, from Periphery.
Following, "The Madness Of Many" was released in 2016, with "Parrhesia" coming in mid-2022.

I personally love how primal this feels. It makes me this of early humans
Joe Shit the rag man
Although the "melody" would just be 8th and 9th intervals in this case haha
Joe Shit the rag man
I felt that too, especially in the 0:55 part and its later repetition. I think it has to do with playing a constant low drone and playing a melody one octave above that (but still in lower registers) simultaneously. I noticed that first on a old QOTSA demo song - Rickshaw.

it sounds like an an anime intro song with the orchestral parts and lead riffage, so it feels like some olden day badass warrior ninja shit.
Orkan Yilmaz
I‘m three years late to the party, but I think this feels primal, bc it reminds me personally of early humans making music with mammoth bones (the intro at least) plus it‘s a simple melody consisting of 3 notes

I get the feeling Tosin fucks with Igor Stravinsky, this feels influenced a bit by The Rite of Spring to me idk

the technological sounding break down starting at 1:11 sounds amazing, along with the next riff (which i call rift {any d3 fans our there}), which encompasses the full range of a "tantrum of spectrum" clipping out at a solo phrase with a very high note, then followed by a series of touched lower...yet still high pitched notes, surges me with an energy in which I cannot describe with words. It's truly a perfect solo of a color/flavor...in which Tosin has many of these to share. Thank you!!! Please come out with more!!!

omg tosin makes the most weirdest coolest original solos
