Moondance
Anita Baker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

[Chorus]
Can I just have one more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love

Well, I want to make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can't hide

[Chorus]

Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush

One more Moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight

On a magic night
Can't I just have one more dance with you my love

This was recorded in 1986 at Montreux with Anita opening for Al Jarreau. I was Al's drummer at the time and our bass player Freddie Washington had recommended me to George Duke who was to produce what was to be a live jazz album of Anita singing standards. Freddie had recorded the Rapture album with Anita Baker. I just discovered that this one song had been released.

Awesome I would love to see this live.

This recording is the Al Jarreau Band with George Duke playing as well as producing. I know this because I am the drummer on it. It was an amazing night and an honor to play with her as well as George Duke! Tris Imboden

The BEST version of this song! I sing this version with my band. You play the HELL out of this. I can't imagine how much fun this was for you! I saw her in Atlanta at the Fox theater waaaaaay back but I'm still "borrowing" her material as well as George Benson's. I'm in Europe now. I hope you haven't retired. Talent like this should NEVER retire!!!

When in this element, which the INCOMPARABLE Ms. Anita Baker COMPLETELY OWNS... she so capably transports my entire being to a universe of jazz SO RARE & sadly, nearly extinct today... that frankly... I would be completely content to put HER music on an infinite loop... to listen to HER glorious voice... & live inside HER soulful, heavenly Jazz... forever.💕💕💕

And yes I have been the drummer with the band Chicago for the past 25 years.

Originally recorded by Van Morrison. I love Anita Baker and this is a decent version, but Bobby McFerrin hit it out the park IMO @2mins - a master of voice manipulation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AggV_Ku0li8
