Big Mouth
Anja Garbarek Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A very big mouth
With a lot of room
For different things
Once I had a whole nice day
A whole nice day
Once I had a whole nice day
And with that day
Came a lot of friends
A lot of friends
Walked down my tongue
Playing my teeth like a drum
Giving out sound
Of happiness
Hey, I've got a big mouth
(I've got a big mouth)
A very big mouth
(A very very big mouth)
With a lot of room
(A lot of room)
For different things
(For different things)
Once I had a whole big boat
(A big boat)
A whole big boat
(Very very big boat)
Once I had a whole big boat
Coming out of it
Sailing on my spit as I spoke
Telling a joke about this girl
Who sailed away with a lot of friends
On a nice day
It was such a nice day
Oh what a lovely day
Hey, how do you do
How do you do
How do you do it ?
I've got a big mouth
A very big mouth
I've got a big mouth
A very big mouth
I've got a big mouth
(I've got a big mouth)
A very big mouth
(A very very big mouth)
I've got a big mouth
(I've got a big mouth)
A very big mouth
(A very very big mouth)
Giving out sound
Of happiness
Anja Garbarek’s song "Big Mouth” is a whimsical ode to the power of speech and the joy it can bring. The song is essentially a meditation on the ability to communicate and connect with others, and how big words can lead to big experiences. The singer refers to her “big mouth” as a source of wonder and celebration, and notes how it allows her to hold onto various experiences and memories.
The first verse of the song sets the tone for the rest of the lyrics. Anja sings, “I've got a big mouth, a very big mouth/With a lot of room for different things”. This line suggests that her mouth represents a vast, seemingly limitless space that can hold an entire world of thoughts and emotions. In the second verse, she recounts a happy memory: “Once I had a whole nice day/A whole nice day/Once I had a whole nice day/Coming out of it”. The third verse takes this idea further, with Anja noting that her ability to speak attracts new friends who “walked down her tongue”. She also describes her teeth as a drum that creates a joyful sound.
The chorus repeats the phrase “I’ve got a big mouth” several times, almost as if she is marvelling at the idea. The final verse describes a girl who sailed away on a boat with many friends. Anja notes that this occurred on a nice day, reinforcing the idea that life is better when it is shared with others.
