At the age of 17 and after eschewing art school in favor of a music degree, Calvi began to learn her trade and started to assemble musical partnerships. In 2006, she met percussionist and harmonium player Mally Harpaz and later recruited drummer Daniel Maiden-Wood. Her initial gigs took place in and around London in late 2008 and 2009. The release of her debut single, "Jezebel," in the fall of 2010 was an electric cover version of the Edith Piaf standard.
The young Calvi soon captured the attention of Domino Records' boss Lawrence Bell after a glowing reference from former Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones, who had witnessed one of Calvi's gigs in Manchester. Bell quickly signed her to his label. Ryder-Jones was not the only celebrity admirer of Calvi's, an acquaintance with the aforementioned Brian Eno similarly urged him to listen to this emerging talent. After hearing Calvi's raw and unplugged performances on The Attic Sessions (the early demos that she recorded on an 8-track in her parent's attic), the distinguished producer soon became her mentor and unofficial cheerleader.
Calvi entered Black Box Studios in France with the much-lauded producer Rob Ellis to record her self-titled debut album in 2010. Using vintage analog equipment, Calvi created a velvet Wall of Sound that justified the hype in the buildup to its 2011 release.
Her second album "One Breath" was released in October 2013. It was produced by John Congleton across two locations - Box Box Studios in France and Elmwood Recording Studios in Texas. The first single taken from the record was "Eliza".
Sing To Me
Anna Calvi Lyrics

Stopping the cars as you run past
We are in love, we are in love with you
Sing to us, beautiful one
Got on your skin, colder than night
The last of the one, the one we divide
Lying so still, lying so still here
Fill me up
Oh, fill me whole
Oh, tear my throat ust to hear yours
So sing out loud
Ooh...
Ooh...
Ah ah ah ah...
Ah ah ah ah...
Ah ah ah ah...
Ah ah ah ah...
And still...
Sing to me, beautiful one
The lyrics of Anna Calvi's song Sing to Me are intriguing and captivating, with a deep sense of longing and vulnerability. The opening lines, "out of the dust, out of your voice, stopping the cars as you run past," suggest a sense of urgency and a desire to connect with someone or something. The repetition of "we are in love, we are in love with you" suggests that the singer is addressing someone they admire or perhaps even worship.
The second verse, "Got on your skin, colder than night, the last of the one, the one we divide, lying so still, lying so still here, sing to me, beautiful one," suggests a sense of deep intimacy and closeness, while also hinting at a sense of separation or division. The image of someone lying still creates a sense of stillness and quiet, with the singer seemingly urging the other person to sing to them, perhaps in a way to break the silence or to fill an absence.
The chorus, "fill me up, oh fill me whole, oh tear my throat just to hear yours, so sing out loud," is particularly poignant, with a sense of heightened passion and desire. The combination of both physical and emotional yearning creates a sense of vulnerability and openness, with the singer seemingly willing to sacrifice themselves for the sake of hearing the other person's voice.
Overall, Sing to Me is a powerful and emotive song that explores themes of love, longing, and connection. While open to interpretation, the song's lyrics suggest a deep sense of intimacy and vulnerability, with the singer seemingly willing to give themselves entirely to the other person.
