Calling Love
Anna Ternheim Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Monday mornings and quiet nights
Being bored, feeling fine
Was it gift if you ask me now
I never knew when I had you
All the same, whomever's to blame for this
I call love by your name
Still calling love by your name
You want apartment outside town
I miss Saturdays when your kids came by
Fussing hard to accept
But who can choose the love they get
I thought I could
You never measured up
Your life wasn't good enough
But who am I to judge you now
All the same, whomever's to blame for this
I call love by your name
I take it's no use but I miss you
Still calling love by your name
All the same, whomever's to blame for this
I call love by your name
I take it's no use but I miss you
Still calling love by your name
The song "Calling Love" by Anna Ternheim speaks about the longing for the past and the pain of losing something valuable after it's already gone. The singer reminisces about the "common life" she shared with her partner before they split up. She misses the familiarity of Monday mornings and quiet nights, and even the boredom and the feeling of fine that came with it. The singer regrets not realizing the value of her partner's love when she had it. She claims that she never knew when she had them. She currently finds herself in a situation where she cannot get over the person and is still calling love by their name, even though she knows it's no use.
As the lyrics proceed, the song's focus shifts towards the mistakes the couple made in their relationship. The singer's partner wanted to move to an apartment outside the town, which she didn't quite agree with. However, she misses the Saturdays when her partner's kids would visit them. The singer thought she could do better than her partner and that her partner's life wasn't good enough. But she now realizes she has no right to judge them.
The song's chorus repeats, emphasizing the singer's inability to move on from the relationship or even the memory of the person. The lyrics are simple yet powerful, conveying the pain and the deep sense of loss effectively. Overall, "Calling Love" is a beautiful and poignant song that deals with themes of regret, love, and loss.
