Ever since fronting the art-pop indie heroes Velvet Belly throughout the 90's, ice-cool electronica adventures in AM and the UV, numerous recordings, live performances, film & TV themes, special guest appearances …it´s been a long, but worthwhile journey for fans of this remarkable chanteuse!
Of her debut solo album "The Siren And The Sage" (+47/Warner Music) released in 2007, Esquire Magazine had this to say… "Sweetness multiplied, sadness tripled, her music brings you a closer step to heaven...as fantastic as sharing the last cigarette with the one you love".
Since then, three outstanding albums, "Blue Sky Blue", with it's "Himmelblå" theme song to the record-breaking Norwegian tv-drama series flying high in the charts over here in Scandinavia.
Then came "Memory Lane", featuring Danny Thompson (Pentangle, Nick Drake, John Martyn, Kate Bush, Talk Talk), mixed by none other than John Wood - the producer who brought the world such classics as Nick Drake’s ”Pink Moon”, John Martyn´s ”Solid Air”, and most of the seminal Island records catalogue of the early 1970's.
2018 saw Anne Marie returning to her more folk-tronic/indie roots with the critically acclaimed album "Lightshadow", more tours and applause!
Anne Marie Almedal will return in 2022 with a new album "We Dance Alone". First single & video out now!

How not to fear
What has to be
Can it be
Will I ever dare
With no despair
To recognize
See everything
See it all come true, come true
Come to you
Feel everything
Feel it all come true, come true
Come to you
Easily
You say to me
Every day is new
The chances few
Don't forget
Don't ask me why
I hesitate
When morning comes
The truth is clear
See everything
See it all come true, come true
Come to you
Feel everything
Feel it all come true, come true
Come to you
Easily
Will I ever learn
A joy so pure
Will I ever learn
A joy so pure
Anne Marie Almedal's song "Joy" is a beautiful, contemplative piece that expresses the inherent struggle of finding true joy amidst the fears and doubts that encompass our everyday lives. In the first verse, Almedal questions if she will ever be able to overcome her fear and embrace what needs to be, alluding to the idea that sometimes we hold ourselves back from experiencing joy out of fear or uncertainty. However, in the chorus, she suggests that there is a way to overcome this - by seeing and feeling everything that comes true, we can more easily find pure joy in our lives. The second verse delves deeper into this idea, with Almedal's use of the word "recognize" implying that joy may already be present in our lives but we may just need to be more aware of it. You can hear the contemplative tone in the melody, as it lingers in the minor key but is balanced by Almedal's hauntingly beautiful voice.
The third verse contains what may be the most important message in the song - "Every day is new, the chances few, don't forget." Here, Almedal urges us to appreciate every day we are given and not take them for granted, for we only have a limited number of chances to truly experience joy. This theme is echoed again in the final repetition of the chorus, where Almedal asks whether she will ever learn to recognize and embrace pure joy.
