When you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you will prove untrue
Then what will you do
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near, then
Maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say maybe
May be you'll think of me
When you are all alone
Maybe the one who is waiting for you will prove untrue
Then what will you do
Maybe you'll sit and sigh
Wishing that I were near, then
Maybe you'll ask me to come back again
And maybe I'll say maybe
The lyrics to Anne Shelton's song "Maybe" speak of a lover contemplating a potential reunion with their past romantic partner. The first verse sets the scene for the possibility of the person who left being thought of in their absence. The second verse contemplates the possibility of the current partner betraying and causing the person to reflect on the past, wishing for the lost love to return. The repeated line "maybe I'll say maybe" shows the hesitation and uncertainty in the decision to reconcile, leaving the door open for the possibility.
The song speaks to the internal struggle of letting go of a past love and moving on, while also recognizing the possibility of a second chance. It also touches on the fear of being hurt again and the uncertainty of what the future holds. The simple melody and straightforward lyrics help to convey these emotions in a relatable way, making it a timeless classic that still resonates today.
