Everybody was around and I was dancing with you
We all went down to the party Friday night
And had a drink there or two
Oh what a heat
I feel love and heart beat
It's electricity
Majestic sound, round and round and round, got you next to me
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a symphony
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a melody, come see
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a symphony
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a melody, come see
Time after time everybody came around
And I was dancing with you
Don't know your name,
Making me ashamed
To feel the way that I do
The lights went out
Couldn't leave without you, this is the place to be
I won't forget
The greatest times I've had when I was dancing with you
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a woman in love
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a woman in love so high
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a symphony
Feel my heartbeat drumming to the beat
Like a melody, come see
Feel my heartbeat
Feel my heartbeat
Feel my heartbeat
There was a time when everybody was around and I was dancing with you
Don't know your name,
Making me ashamed
To feel the way that I do
The lights went out
Couldn't leave without you, this is the place to be
I won't forget
The greatest times I've had when I was dancing with you
Annie's song Heartbeat is about the experience of being in a crowded dancefloor, where one person stands out above all the noise and the crowd. The singer describes how they were dancing with someone they didn't know, feeling the heat and electricity of the music and the moment, and how that person made their heart beat faster. The lyrics seem to capture the feeling of being lost in the moment, swept away by the music and the energy, and being overwhelmed by the presence of someone special.
As the night goes on, the party becomes more intense, with more people coming and going, but the singer keeps returning to the same person they were dancing with at the beginning. Despite not knowing their name or anything about them, the singer feels a deep connection with this person, and is embarrassed by how much they care. The song climaxes with the singer confessing their feelings, declaring that their heartbeat is drumming to the beat of the music, and that this feeling is like a symphony or a melody that everyone can hear.
Overall, Heartbeat is a celebration of the joy and energy of dancing, and how it can bring people together in unexpected ways. It is a reminder that sometimes the best moments in life are the ones that are the most fleeting, and that we should cherish them while we can.
