Ross is one of the early practitioners of a singing style known as vocalese, which involves the setting of original lyrics to an instrumental jazz solo. Her 1952 treatment of saxophonist Wardell Gray's "Twisted" is a classic example of vocalese. "Twisted" is perhaps her most famous song.
She recorded seven albums with Lambert, Hendricks & Ross between 1957 and 1962. Annie left the group in 1962 and in 1964 opened her own nightclub in London. Annie's Room featured performances by such jazz luminaries as Joe Williams, Stuff Smith, Blossom Dearie, Anita O'Day, Jon Hendricks, and Erroll Garner as well as Annie herself.
Ross is also an accomplished actress and has appeared in a number of films: Superman III (1983), Throw Mama From The Train (1987), Pump Up the Volume (1990), Blue Sky (1994), Short Cuts (1993).

Let me love you
You can always count on me
I'll be there, wait and see
To love you
Let me love you
Let me kiss you
For someone like you
If someone breaks your heart and it starts to fall apart
Let me love you
You can always come to me to soothe your misery
And to love you
Let me love you
Let me kiss you
Let me show you whadda I can do
For someone like you
If someone leaves you at the door, teardrops on the floor
Let me love you
You can always call on me
I'll be there willingly
To love you
Let me love you
Let me kiss you
Let me show you whadda I can do
For someone like you
Annie Ross's song Let Me Love You is a heartwarming ballad that expresses the singer's dedication and willingness to love and care for someone who has been hurt or let down in love. The lyrics start by acknowledging the pain and sadness that the person feels when someone makes them cry or breaks their heart. However, the message of the song is one of hope and support, as the singer assures the person that they can always count on her to be there for them, to love them, and to show them what she can do for someone like them.
The chorus of the song repeats the titular phrase "Let me love you" and highlights the singer's desire to express her affection physically by kissing the person and showing them what she can do to make them feel better. The final verse of the song adds a touch of urgency to the message, as the singer encourages the person to call on her whenever they need her, promising to be there willingly and wholeheartedly.
