Antagonist is back with a new album and new name: Antagonist A.D. ElevenfiftySeven is proud to be releasing the new full length album We Are The Dead on the 6th of October in both New Zealand and Australia via Melbourne label Trial & Error.
2005 was a dark year for New Zealand metal/hardcore with prominent bands breaking up, crucial venues being lost & key promoters bowing out. Antagonist A.D pushed on and quickly made a name for themselves as an extremely hardworking band and breathing new life into the local metal/hardcore scene.
Taking a different approach Antagonist A.D’s music and message could be described as 'Metalcore with old school ethics'. It's raw metalcore at its purest and sincerest. Not watered down or compromised in anyway. Antagonist A.D delivers the frantic intensity of hardcore, while utilising a heavier edge and metal instrumentation.
Lyrically the band speaks of the cancerous nature of western culture, the infectiousness of apathy, its symptoms & consequence, the exploitation of animals across the world, for pleasure, science, fashion or food. With topics ranging from social & political commentary to the brutally honest self-retrospect and analysis. Simply Antagonist A.D words are full of venom, conviction & passion.
Antagonist A.D has not only toured New Zealand consistently but also Australia, touring with locals and internationals including. Most Precious Blood (USA), Have Heart (USA), Parkway Drive and Carpathian (AUS).
The Debut album ‘ These Cities, Our Graves ‘ (September 06) sold well throughout New Zealand and Australia (May 2008). Now Antagonist A.D deliver the sophomore release “We Are The Dead” available both in New Zealand and Australia this October through ElevenfiftySeven Records (NZ) and Trial and Error (AUS).

An old love called me yesterday
And she sounds so sweet
Why she sound so sweet
Drill me to the floor
This hurts even more than I expected it to do
Oooooo
(Ayyyepp)
Drill me to the floor
This hurts even more than I expected it to do
Like the moon says to the dark, we will never be apart
We'll never be alone again
Cause it was you who call me out
When I couldn't shut my mouth
About the last love that did me in
I couldn't sleep you said just sleep with me
I couldn't speak you said I'm listening
And if it breaks me down I'll be around
Until it's you love you're my new love
Drill me to the floor this hurts even more than I expected it to do
Ooooo
Ooooo
Drill me to the floor this hurts even more than I expected it to do
Ooooo
Ooooo
Old love
It's been so long
Why you gotta call
And hurt me hurt me [x3]
And I love you still
Why I love you
The lyrics to Antagonist A.D.'s song "Old Love" speak of the pain and confusion that can come from being contacted by an ex-lover. The singer in the song is caught off guard by a call from an old love who he describes as sounding sweet. This is a confusing and painful experience, as the singer may still have feelings for the ex-lover but is also trying to move on from the relationship. The line "drill me to the floor, this hurts even more than I expected it to do" highlights the pain and vulnerability that the singer is feeling. Despite this pain, the singer remembers that his old love was there for him during a tough time and helped him through his last breakup. The chorus repeats the phrase "old love, it's been so long, why you gotta call, and hurt me" which underscores the mixed emotions and pain that come from being contacted by an old lover.
The lyrics also touch on themes of love, loyalty, and heartbreak. The singer describes how his current love interest was there for him during a difficult time, and how this loyalty has now made him hesitate to fully embrace new love. The line "and if it breaks me down, I'll be around, until it's you love, you're my new love" highlights the struggle between holding onto past love and embracing new love. The line "like the moon says to the dark, we will never be apart" speaks to the durability and tenacity of love, suggesting that even if the singer moves on, his old love will always remain a part of him.
