Overjoyed
Anthony Strong Lyrics

"Overjoyed"

Over time, I've been building my castle of love
Just for two, though you never knew you were my reason
I've gone much too far for you now to say
That I've got to throw my castle away

Over dreams, I have picked out a perfect come true
Though you never knew it was of you I've been dreaming
The sandman has come from too far away
For you to say come back some other day

And though you don't believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me

Over hearts, I have painfully turned every stone
Just to find, I had found what I've searched to discover
I've come much too far for me now to find
The love that I've sought can never be mine

And though you don't believe that they do
They do come true
For did my dreams
Come true when I looked at you
And maybe too, if you would believe
You too might be
Overjoyed, over loved, over me

And though the odds say improbable
What do they know
For in romance
All true love needs is a chance
And maybe with a chance you will find

You too like I
Overjoyed, over loved, over you, over you

Overall Meaning

Anthony Strong's song "Overjoyed" conveys a tale of unrequited love. The songwriter paints a picture of a castle, a structure built over time to house the love he has for someone, although they never knew they were the reason for its construction. Despite his dedication, the object of the singer's affection is seemingly out of reach, and he acknowledges that he has gone too far for them to acknowledge his feelings, as they now have to throw his castle away.

The second verse then talks about dreams of a perfect "come true," which the singer had chosen, though the person of his dreams was unaware. The sandman, a figure from a lullaby who helps put people to sleep, is an allusion to the fact that the dream couldn't last, that it was too far away, and that the person he was dreaming about would not want him. The third verse continues with the journey that the singer has gone on, turning over every stone to look for the love he sought to discover, only to learn that it can never be his.

The chorus features a message of hope that dreams can come true with love, but only if the person receiving it believes as well. The song ends with the hope that, despite any unfavourable chances, true love will find a way and they will be overjoyed and over loved.
