Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. The band has had a revolving cast of singers and lead guitarists, including Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Spitz and Rob Caggiano. Since 2013, the band has consisted of Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Ian and Benante (who replaced one-time drummer Greg D'Angelo in 1983) are the only two members to appear on every album, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing original bassist Dan Lilker. After two stints in Anthrax, from 1984 to 1992 and again from 2005 to 2007, Belladonna returned to the band in 2010.

And now that I've found you
What is and what will never be
Now that I've found you
When my time has gone away the words I say
Their lies will help you through
And I feel like it's gonna rain, a real rain
So addicted to the pain
And it's the pain that makes you crazy
Your mind is closing in
On a fight that you can't win
It's making me insane
If you crawl
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
If you fall
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
I think of all things that just got lost
Now that you find me
As if I had just had shuffled off
Now that you find me
When my time had gone away, the actions played
They broke your world in two
And I feel like it's gonna rain, a real rain
To wash this from me too
So addicted to the pain
And it's the pain that makes you crazy
Your mind is closing in
On a fight that you can't win
It's making me insane
If you crawl
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
If you fall
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
Crawling, crawling, crawling, crawling
Crawling, crawling, crawling, crawling
What is and what will never be
And it's the pain that makes you crazy
If you crawl
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
If you fall
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
If you crawl
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
If you fall
I'll follow, I'll follow
Don't walk away
Crawling
What is and what will never be
And it's the pain that makes you crazy
The song "Crawl" by Anthrax is a powerful and emotional track that is open to interpretation. The song seems to be about a person who has found someone special who they will love and follow no matter what the future holds. The vocalist is reflecting on the pain and hurt that his lover is feeling and is willing to go through anything with her if it means they can be together.
The pre-chorus alludes to the fact that the vocalist's time is coming to an end and that his words are lies that will help his lover. The real meaning of these lines can be interpreted as him not wanting his lover to be alone or lost when he is gone. He feels that his lies will help her through the pain and heartache.
The chorus of the song is the most powerful and emotional part of the track. The vocalist is telling his lover that he is willing to follow her no matter what happens. If she crawls, he will crawl with her, if she falls, he will be there to pick her up. The use of the word "follow" emphasizes the idea of the vocalist being a supportive partner and being there to help in anyway possible.
The second verse of the song reflects on how the situation has shifted, now that the vocalist has found his lover. His lover's world has been broken in two, and he feels that it's his responsibility to help put it back together. The use of the phrase "real rain" as imagery suggests the idea of cleansing and starting anew, washing away past hurt and pain.
Overall, the song is about being there for someone through everything, being their support system and following them no matter what. The lyrics are open to interpretation and can be viewed as a general message of love and support.
