Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. The band has had a revolving cast of singers and lead guitarists, including Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Spitz and Rob Caggiano. Since 2013, the band has consisted of Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Ian and Benante (who replaced one-time drummer Greg D'Angelo in 1983) are the only two members to appear on every album, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing original bassist Dan Lilker. After two stints in Anthrax, from 1984 to 1992 and again from 2005 to 2007, Belladonna returned to the band in 2010.

Anthrax Lyrics

The outlaws, and the lawmen that prevail
The bounty hunter's job is on the wrong side of the law
Intentions, of the truth and nothing more
Burn 'em, clear the streets as he rides into the town
Cause the nameless one's gonna have some fun
He's gonna bring an outlaw down
Then he with his squint-eyed grin and stubbled chin
He rides through history
The jury, in his mind the choices weigh
The trials, if you're guilty you're his prey
No judgment otherwise can change the lust
That's in his eyes
The sentence, will be carried out in stride
No name, like a shadow on a moonies night
Real game, He'll be there to uphold
Justice, law and order
And you'll pay, the highest fee
When the gunslinger takes his piece
The money, it's the price you have to pay
When he calls, drop your eyes and look away
The man has taken life to balance scales of wrong and right
Existence, each day a moral fight.
Anthrax's song "Lone Justice" seems to be a tribute to the classic western movie heroes and how they uphold justice in a world full of chaos. The opening lines of the song establish that there are two kinds of people in the world, outlaws and lawmen, and that the bounty hunter's job is on the wrong side of the law. However, their intentions are nothing more than the truth. The song describes the gunslinger's ruthless pursuit of the outlaws and his squint-eyed grin as he rides through history.
The lyrics portray the gunslinger as a moral judge that upholds law and order in a world full of criminals. He is the shadow on a moonlit night, but he is there to uphold real justice. He forces people to pay the highest fee when they cross the line between right and wrong. He is the one who has taken life to balance the scale of wrong and right. The lyrics also comment on the trials that the gunslinger faces when passing judgments, and how guilty or not, the sentence will be carried out in stride.
In summary, Anthrax's "Lone Justice" is a tribute to the classic western movie heroes who upheld justice in a world full of chaos. The song portrays the gunslinger as a moral judge who forces outlaws to pay the price for their crimes and uphold law and order in the society.
