Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. The band has had a revolving cast of singers and lead guitarists, including Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Spitz and Rob Caggiano. Since 2013, the band has consisted of Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Ian and Benante (who replaced one-time drummer Greg D'Angelo in 1983) are the only two members to appear on every album, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing original bassist Dan Lilker. After two stints in Anthrax, from 1984 to 1992 and again from 2005 to 2007, Belladonna returned to the band in 2010.

Anthrax Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When you live so many miles away
Nothing here is gonna make me stay
Took me over, let me find a way
I sold my house, I sold my motor, too
All I want is to be next to you
I'd rob a bank and Maybe steal a plane
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
I've had a thousand girls or maybe more
But I never felt like this before
But I just don't know what's come over me
You took me over, take a look at me
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
All I want is to be next to you
So many times I used to give a sign
Get this feeling, gonna lose my mind
When all it is is just a love affair
You took me over baby, take me there
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
What can I do?
All I want is to be next to you
(What can I do?)
All I want is to be next to you
(What can I do?)
All I want is to be next to you
(What can I do?)
All I want is to be next to you
Next to you
Next to you
Next to you
Next to you
The lyrics of Anthrax's "Next to You" revolve around the singer's deep longing and desire to be close to someone who lives far away. The opening lines set the tone of the song where he expresses how difficult it is for him to stay away from his loved ones who live miles away. He further explains that he has sold everything, from his house to his motor, just to be near the person he loves. The lyrics suggest that the singer is so deeply in love that he would go to any lengths to be close to his beloved, including robbing a bank or stealing a plane.
The chorus of the song, which repeats the lines, "What can I do?/All I want is to be next to you" highlights the intensity of the singer's desire to be with his beloved. He compares his current experience to that of his past love affairs, which didn't come close to the depth of his current feelings. The final lines of the song, where the lyrics are repeated multiple times, express the singer's desperation and longing to be beside the person he loves.
Overall, the lyrics of the song convey the singer's intense feelings of love and longing, his desperation to be with his beloved, and his willingness to do whatever it takes to be close to them.
