This Is Me
Antidote Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You look away scared to death
Big black boots not classy ties
We don't wanna look that nice
Punks and skins a big disgrace
You think you see a criminal's face
Smelly scumbags on the dole
Anti-social and irresponsible
A way of life which is undesirable
Fuck them and their prejudice
They don't know what real freedom is
This is me this is what I say
And I won't look the other way
The lyrics of Antidote's "This Is Me" are a statement against societal prejudices and preconceived notions about people who express themselves differently than the norm. The verses touch on various stereotypes - from punk attire to unemployment - and how they are perceived by society. The band talks about how people are afraid to interact with those who look different than them, how they think that punks and skins may be criminals, and how society brands them as anti-social and irresponsible. The lyrics claim that such labels are not only wrong but also prevent individuals from being themselves, from enjoying real freedom. The chorus states that the band members are not going to look away for anyone else's comfort, and they will remain true to themselves.
