He entered onto the scene in the early 1990s, being the first rural bachatero to reach a mainstream audience with his hit "Voy pa'lla", shortly after Blas Durán had appropriated the electric guitar for the genre. Santos' adoption of soft romantic lyrics was more socially accepted than the bawdy cabaret style common to bachata before him, and he shortly became the genre's leading artist, helping move bachata into the Caribbean Latino mainstream.
Antony Santos is currently the best paid bachatero in the Dominican Republic. He has already signed the contract to offer a concert in Puerto Rico at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum, a venue with a seating capacity of 10,000 people. This concert was on May 12, 2007 and he's said to have been paid an unprecedented US$90,000 for this one presentation alone.

Dicen que el hombre no llora
no debe llorar
"YO ME DOBLE MUCHAS VECES Y NO ME PARTI"
AY.. AY.. AY..
Y LLORO,
Y LLORO...
ME GUSTA ESA VAINA
LLORA OTRA VEZ, LLORA
AY.. AY..
"YO ME DOBLE MUCHAS VECES Y NO ME PARTI"

In Antony Santos's song "Ay Ay Ay," he addresses the societal expectation that men should not cry or show their emotions. He starts by acknowledging that there is a belief that a man should suffer and remain silent. However, he counters that with a proverb: "it's not the same to call the devil than to see him arrive." This means that it's one thing to anticipate something bad happening and another thing altogether to experience it. Santos goes on to say that he is one of those men who never cries, no matter how much pain he's in. He pays tribute to another proverb he learned: "I bent many times, but I didn't break."
In the second verse, Santos opens up slightly and admits that his eyes are moist, which to him are just raindrops from the sky trying to escape. He explains that his life became cloudy when the woman he loved left him, and now his soul is raining for her. He repeats the phrase "ay ay ay" several times throughout the song, which is a common expression in Dominican music and culture that conveys a sense of emotional distress, sorrow or yearning. Overall, the song touches on themes of masculinity, cultural expectations, emotional repression, and heartbreak.
