After acrimonious fighting with that label and changing music times, the group broke off and has since released multiple independent albums to a devoted following of synthpop fans. They've also incorporated more industrial and techno influences. 1990's 'Peace' was notably followed up by 1993's 'Hope'.
As time went on, their music has received some critical acclaim. Their 2001 album 'Worth, which was recorded in 1991 but released later for legal reasons, is named by Allmusic as "one of the most beautifully dark synth-pop albums ever made." The band garnered attention for releasing a free EP entirely in MP3 format in 2003 as well.

Anything Box Lyrics

Sometimes, I get excited about nothing at all...
Sometimes, I get so jaded and stare at the walls...
Does she love me? yes she does!
Does she want me? yes she does!
Does she need me? yes she does sometimes...
Sometimes, I get infected in a super high...
Sometimes, a high on energy
Within her mind...
Sometimes, I can't forget the letters that she sends...
Sometimes, I sleep all day and night:
It's all in vain...
Does she love me? yes she does!
Does she want me? yes she does!
Does she need me? yes she does sometimes...sometimes...
I'm only happy, when I'm dreaming of her eyes...
She's only happy, when she's dreaming in my arms...
I love her so...
Does she love me? yes she does!
Does she want me? yes she does!
Does she need me? yes she does somes...sometimes...
The song Doubt by Anything Box explores the complexity of relationships and the rollercoaster of emotions that come with it. The lyrics describe the singer's fluctuating emotions, ranging from excitement to jadedness, being infected with a super high, to sometimes sleeping all day and night. The central theme, however, centers on the singer's questioning of his lover's feelings towards him. The repeated questioning of "Does she love me? Yes, she does! Does she want me? Yes, she does! Does she need me? Yes, she does sometimes" highlights the singer's doubt and need for reassurance in the relationship.
The chorus, "I'm only happy when I'm dreaming of her eyes, she's only happy when she's dreaming in my arms," portrays the two sides' happiness in the relationship. It suggests a mutual love for each other but also highlights the distance between them, causing them to find solace in their dreams. Through the lyrics, the listener can sense the singer's vulnerability and desire for love and answers, making it a relatable song for many who have experienced similar relationships.
