After acrimonious fighting with that label and changing music times, the group broke off and has since released multiple independent albums to a devoted following of synthpop fans. They've also incorporated more industrial and techno influences. 1990's 'Peace' was notably followed up by 1993's 'Hope'.
As time went on, their music has received some critical acclaim. Their 2001 album 'Worth, which was recorded in 1991 but released later for legal reasons, is named by Allmusic as "one of the most beautifully dark synth-pop albums ever made." The band garnered attention for releasing a free EP entirely in MP3 format in 2003 as well.

World Without Love
Anything Box Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If I heard you say,
The world is everything
I would be dreaming
Of living quietly.
And if I heard you say,
I could change your mind
With just a kiss...
What are we gonna do
In a world without love...
What are we gonna
Do in a world without love...
Do we feel the pain
Of our neighbor's heart,
Do we understand
The human mind?
'Cause if we did,
Would it make us live
Together in this lonely world?
In this lonely world...
What are we gonna do
In a world without love...
What are we gonna
Do in a world without love...
If you walk this way,
And you dance with me...
Hopefully I can change
The loneliness.
'Cause in your eyes
I see the laughter hide,
Hiding so deeply
Always within you...
What are we gonna do
In a world without love...
What are we gonna do
In a world without love...
Sweet love...
The song "World Without Love" by Anything Box poetically explores the idea of what the world would be like without love. In the opening verses, the singer hears someone saying that the world is everything and too cold to touch. However, despite these seemingly bleak sentiments, the singer believes that they can change this person's mind with a kiss. The chorus repeats the question "What are we gonna do in a world without love?" emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
The following verses delve into the theme of empathy and understanding. The singer questions whether people truly understand the pain in their neighbor's hearts and whether this understanding would bring us closer together in our loneliness. The song's bridge shifts to a more hopeful tone as the singer suggests that they can change someone's loneliness by dancing with them and seeing the laughter in their eyes.
Overall, "World Without Love" encourages listeners to consider the importance of love and empathy in our lives and what we can do to cultivate these emotions in ourselves and those around us.

If I heard you say,
If you were to tell me,
The world is everything
That everything revolves around the world,
I would be dreaming
I would be lost in my own thoughts,
Of living quietly.
Of living a life of solitude and peace.
And if I heard you say,
And if you were to tell me,
The world is too cold to touch.
That the world is too harsh and unfriendly,
I could change your mind
Convince you to think differently,
With just a kiss...
By showing you love and affection.
What are we gonna do
What actions should we take
In a world without love...
In a world where there is a lack of compassion and connection...
Do we feel the pain
Do we truly empathize with and understand
Of our neighbor's heart,
The struggles and feelings of those around us?
Do we understand
Do we comprehend and grasp
The human mind?
The complexity of human thoughts and emotions?
'Cause if we did,
Because if we did understand
Would it make us live
Would it help us live and coexist
Together in this lonely world?
Together in this world where many feel disconnected and alone?
If you walk this way,
If you join me and walk the same path as me,
And you dance with me...
And you share this journey of life with me...
Hopefully I can change
I hope that I can transform
The loneliness.
The feelings of isolation and solitude.
'Cause in your eyes
Because when I look into your eyes
I see the laughter hide,
I sense joy and mirth, but also a hint of concealment,
Hiding so deeply
Buried far beneath the surface,
Always within you...
But existing and waiting to be uncovered.
What are we gonna do
What course of action should we pursue
In a world without love...
In a world where love is scarce and difficult to find...
What are we gonna do
What steps can we take
In a world without love...
In a world where we desperately need more care and compassion.
Sweet love...
May we all find and experience a love that is genuine and sweet.

Anything Box touched my soul in the 90's. I used to listen to them on my walkman and boombox. This song poped into my head today, and I just had to hear it again. I love all the songs and don't have a favorite. Thank you.
