Hallucinating
Apartment 26 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Who are you? who are you? I don't know
Turn my back, turn my back, then I'll see you
Never seen, never seen, like a sixth sense
Who am I tonight?
Coloured lights, doubted twice, resurrecting
In my mind, countless signs, misleading
As I pass, see the last, ever changing
Lifted up, interrupt, all knowing

Chorus:
Something in my head - telling me to feel like this
Something in my mind - wanting me to think like this

I can feel, I can feel, fell your presence
Good or bad, good or bad, nothing to me
Come to me, come to me, truest comfort
Who am I tonight?
Peeling glass, feel the past, never ending
Feel my hands, cross the lands, revealing
Morphing eyes, true disguise, while predicting
Passing time, come to mind, all showing

Who am I supposed to be, if I don't know who I am
If I don't trust in myself to be what I'm supposed to be
(repeat)

Chorus

What are we, what are we, mental mischief
Too alive, too alive, never living
Coming down, coming down, living 2-d
Who was I last night?
Waking up to a world non existing
Shake you head, wake the dead from sleeping
Positive, negative, come to find out
Just as real as it feels, it's growing

Chorus

Overall Meaning

The song "Hallucinating" by Apartment 26 is a deeply introspective and enigmatic exploration of the self and the world around us. The lyrics are sung in a dreamy, almost trance-like tone that captures the surreal nature of the themes being explored. The song opens with the repeated question "Who are you?" suggesting a sense of disorientation and confusion. The singer seems to be searching for something, but is unsure what it is they are looking for. The idea of seeing someone when you turn your back is also evoked, adding to the sense of paranoia and uncertainty.

The lyrics then delve into the idea of perception being like a "sixth sense," and the singer struggles to make sense of the "countless signs" and "misleading" information that surrounds them. They describe feeling lifted up and interrupted, which could suggest a sudden shock or revelation. The chorus repeats the phrase "Something in my head, telling me to feel like this/ Something in my mind, wanting me to think like this," which hints at the idea of an internal conflict or struggle.

The second verse continues to explore the theme of perception, with the singer feeling their way through a "peeling glass" world that is "never-ending." The idea of revealing and morphing eyes suggests that even when we think we have a clear picture of the world, our understanding is subject to change. The final verse speaks to the idea of mental health, with the phrase "mental mischief" suggesting a sense of chaos or instability. The singer seems to be grappling with the question of identity, asking "Who was I last night?" and questioning what it means to be alive.

Overall, "Hallucinating" is a complex and thought-provoking song that defies easy interpretation. It seems to be exploring the boundaries between self and other, and the way in which our perceptions shape our reality.

Finished looking for the answers
Now I'm looking for the questions
I can look into your mirror and see inside your head
See my reflections and this is what I've bled
I look right into your mirror but I can't see me

[Chorus (x2)]
Everything's gone backwards
Nothing's what it seems
I awake from my nightmares
Smash the mirror, smash the dreams

Backwards into future
Now you're making up for lost time
I hide under the shadow and try to hide my name
Eyes that will question and this is what I mean
I look back into your mirror
But still don't see me

[Chorus (x2)]
Everything's gone backwards
Nothing's what it seems
I awake from my nightmares
Smash the mirror, smash the dreams

[x3]
Smash the mirror
Smash the dreams

[Chorus (x2)]
Everything's gone backwards
Nothing's what it seems
I awake from my nightmares
Smash the mirror, smash the dreams [x3]

Does anyone else who bought this on CD remember there being a bunch of 'blank tracks' near the end?

Inifus

Yes, after the final track it went to a series of tracks that began silent and then started adding more and more sound until you reached track number 26, which was the fully mixed track. It's been uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUxQFLyNFhg
