Yes. Glados has done very unethical & terrible things, but it's all in the name of science. Due to her actions (& some others'), she invented/popularized (should she sell information/products into the masses once she feels she's ready): emancipation grids (forcefields), pneumatic diversity vents (pipes), panels, turrets, thermal discouragement beams (high-power lasers), hard-light surfaces (light bridges), conversion gel, repulsion gel, & propulsion gel!

The calming ambience of the Tractor Beam, combined with the sounds of chaos and destruction of Chapter 8's tests created an eerie, foreboding feeling of dread that I can't completely describe, really sets the tone for this last run of tests.

In the first week of july I had set my iPod to wake me up after using its radio overnight, but I set it wrong, that didn't happen, then when I went over to pick it up later, realizing that I had set it to play music for an alarm, this was the one playing. It was creepy to me!

Aperture Science really named a "Tractor beam" an "Aperture Science Excursion Funnel"
If you want to get really over complicated you could even call the orange version an "Aperture Science Stagnation Funnel"
Or both of them just an "Aperture Science Dual-Directional Wet-Light Asbestos Aided Excursion and Stagnation Funnel".

I was actually fascinated with the concept of liquid asbestos. It was probably not 100% asbestos but mixed with other compounds.

Turrets can't see players through the beam, much like a hard light bridge, leading me to believe that its a mix between liquid asbestos and a liquid form of sunlight. You can call it soft/liquid/wet light if you really want to.
