The laboratory is part of the Aperture Science Laboratory, researching psychoacoustics to enhance the immersive and multidimensional experience generated by Valve's most widely lauded game, Portal and its successor Portal 2.
According to Aperture, "Whether you’re a mega-science corporation with decades of test experience, or a young start-up liberating your first test subject from non-testing with a chloroform-soaked rag, Aperture guarantees results. Wake up your test subject, open the chamber door, and press play—let Aperture’s patent-pending rhythmic compliance enhancers do the rest." Everyone loves talking about how enormous GLaDOS is on the album cover, but nobody seems to understand what a genius decision it is. Sure, GLaDOS doesn't consume the skybox, but she's in control of everyone and everything throughout the entire facility. She can rearrange hundreds of rooms on a dime and fabricate tests near instantaneously. The only reason you continuously survive is because she chooses to torment you rather than give you an easy death. Sure, GLaDOS isn't physically that gigantic, but the sense of omnipresence she instills means she might as well be. It's not about how she looks, it's about how she feels, and she feels exactly like the album suggests. Notice too that she's not looking at the ant sized human on the ground, but instead directly at you.

@Tom Eye The SFM guy because the human is who you play as, so therefore if she is looking at you her light will shine on you

So then why's the light on the ant sized human?

One thing I noticed about this scene is how GLaDOS treated Wheatley, she didn't even bat an eye or say anything to him, as all of her dialogue was directed to the player and player only, she even just crushed him and threw him out like trash
And the only time she did actually even care about him, was when he was breaking Chell out of the test track, and that's only because he was interfering

She also calls Wheatley out like "Metal ball" when you have to make a run for it with Wheatley to get to GLaDOS
Quote
Its even better once you realize she did that to send a message to chell, the one reaction he gets out of her isnt even directed to him

@meau *metal ball
Mini-bit
because to her at this time, Wheatley is just some random personality core, and is of absolutely no significance to here compared to the one human that killed her.

Little ball, I CAN hear you.
