Girl/Boy Song
Aphex Twin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm forever painting with plastic fingers
I'm forever painting when it's in my cheese
I'm always flying up
Vegtables with cheese if you please

Overall Meaning

It's difficult to pinpoint the exact meaning behind the lyrics of Aphex Twin's Girl/Boy Song, but the general interpretation is that the song is about the thrill and excitement of experimentation and breaking free from constraints. The line "I'm forever painting with plastic fingers" could be a metaphor for creating art without worrying about the limitations of traditional methods, whereas "I'm forever painting when it's in my cheese" could refer to finding inspiration in unexpected places.

The phrase "I'm always flying up" could be interpreted as a feeling of euphoria or transcendence that comes from exploring new ideas or ways of thinking. The mention of "Vegetables with cheese if you please" could simply be a nonsensical phrase used for its rhythm and rhyme, or it could represent the joy of indulging in something that may not be considered "proper" or "appropriate."

Overall, the lyrics of Girl/Boy Song are open to interpretation and can be seen as a celebration of creativity and the freedom to explore without being constrained by societal norms.

You and your wife had just gotten married. You're busy on a business trip far away from her, and she's having the baby at last. The rush to make it in time to see her and be there for her is the drums of the song. You make it there to realize she's dying from the childbirth. She dies yet the child survives the birth.

You hurt at first but then you realize you have a piece of her with you always in that child.

You walk out of the hospital after they confirm your wife's death, but you're spirits aren't dampened...at least not yet.

You have her in your arms, little do you know. The little child in your arms grabbing at your hands as you tell them it's okay. You're there for them always.

You quit your travel business job to stay with them always, and work a job closer to home so you're always there for your child. Things might not be the same with losing your wife but you have a piece of her with you always.

Things are okay.

(I really feel like this song replicates that feeling. The instruments reflect on the sorrow of that situation and the spastic drums represent that person's emotional state, a clusterfuck of so many feelings that it makes their heart go crazy, their mind race, yet it has that loving sound to it like despite everything you went through...things are gonna be okay.)

How the fuck does this man do this with just sound?
