Before their unfortunate demise, Apocalypse Hoboken toured with the likes of The Vandals, The Ataris, Ten Foot Pole, Less Than Jake, Swingin' Utters, Agent Orange, Guttermouth, Strung Out, Bigwig, Suicide Machines, At the Drive In, Murder City Devils, and appeared on West Coast dates of the Warped Tour.
Their last show in 2003 sold out Chicago's Metro, and though they haven't recorded a shred of new music in five years, demand for their live act has never been greater. A reunion at the Abbey Pub with all-original members promises to be a highlight of 2006.

Sweet Transvestite
Apocalypse Hoboken Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He's just a little brought down because when you knocked
He thought you were the candyman.
Don't get strung out by the way that I look,
Don't judge a book by it's cover
I'm not much of a man by the light of day,
But by night I'm one hell of a lover
So let me show you around, maybe play you a sound
You look like you're both pretty groovy
Or if you want something visual that's not too abysmal
We could take in an old Steve Reeves movie.
I'm glad we caught you at home, could we use your phone?
We're both in a bit of a hurry.
We'll just say where we are, then go back to the car
We don't want to be any worry.
So you got caught with a flat, well, how about that?
Well babies, don't you panic.
By the light of the night when it all seems alright
I'll get you a satanic mechanic.
I'm just a Sweet Transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania.
So why don't you stay for the night? Or maybe a bite?
I could show you my favourite obsession.
I've been making a man with blond hair and a tan
And he's good for relieving my tension
I'm just a Sweet Transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania.
So come up to the lab. And see what's on the slab.
I see you shiver with antici... pation!
But maybe the rain isn't really to blame
So I'll remove the cause, but not the symptom.

The lyrics to the song "Sweet Transvestite" by Apocalypse Hoboken are from the perspective of a character who identifies as a sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania. The character is confident in their own identity, and is inviting the listener into their world. The lyrics highlight the idea that one should not judge a book by its cover, as the character admits they are not much of a man by the light of day, but by night they are one hell of a lover. The character's invitation to show the listener around and introduce them to their obsession of creating a man with blond hair and a tan serves as both an invitation to embrace their own identity and a cautionary reminder to not judge others based on appearances or identities.
The lyrics, though controversial at the time of release, have become iconic in the history of rock music due to the themes of self-acceptance and individuality expressed in the song. The use of the term "transvestite" in the lyrics has been criticized by some, but has also been defended as an important part of the LGBTQ+ community's history and identity. Overall, the lyrics can be interpreted as a call to embrace oneself and others for who they truly are, rather than making judgments based on societal norms or appearances.
