En vie
Apocalyptica Lyrics

Pour des lendemains qui chantent faux?
Pourquoi poser tant de questions?
Faut-il que l'on soit aussi cons?
Ne suffirait-il pas de se voir?
Un peu plus un peu moins mal
Ne suffirait-il pas de vouloir?
And the world all gone to war
Réduisons nos peines
Achevons-nous pour le plaisir
Distillons nos haines
Et buvons à nos souvenirs
Buvons pour ne plus mentir
Achevons-nous pour le plaisir
Et si un jour, tout refleurit
Que par amour, on reste en vie
Pourquoi laisser faire le hasard
Quand nos rêves perdent le mémoire?
Faut-il que l'on soit aussi bête?
C'est l'histoire qui se répète
Ne suffirait-il pas de se voir
Un peu plus un peu moins mal?
Ne suffirait-il pas de vouloir?
And this world all gone to war
Réduisons nos peines
Achevons-nous pour le plaisir
Distillons nos haines
Et buvons à nos souvenirs
Réduisons nos peines
Achevons-nous pour le plaisir
Distillons nos haines
Et buvons pour ne plus se mentir
Buvons à nos souvenirs
Achevons-nous pour le plaisir
The lyrics of Apocalyptica's "En Vie" (meaning "Alive" in French) delve into the frustration and confusion present in human relationships, as well as the consequences of our actions. The first verse questions why we create so many issues for ourselves, particularly with regards to the future, and there is a sense of self-deprecation as the singer asks whether we're foolish to this extent. The following lines suggest that it would be enough to simply see each other a little less painfully, and to have the will to make that happen, instead of perpetuating a cycle of war.
The chorus focuses on the idea of reducing one's pain, ending oneself for pleasure, and although this may be interpreted as either tongue-in-cheek or honest, there is an inevitability in the way the lyrics progress. The phrase "distill our hatreds" reinforces the existing animosity between the conflicting parties. Throughout the song, there is a sense of indulgence in the falsehoods and lies we tell ourselves, particularly with regards to our memories. There is a blatant disregard for the consequences of our actions, summarized by the haunting lines and refrain of "And this world all gone to war."

I didn't like any English translations of this song so I went ahead and made my own. It's designed to flow similar to the French lyrics. The word I didn't change was cons, I like how it's meaning changes in English to a shorter version of con-artists or convicts instead of just an idiot or asinine person. These lyrics are an attempt to capture the essence of the lyrics and not transliterate like everyone else did while giving it some flow and rhyme.
Why should we make up history
For glory tomorrow which is false?
Why ask so many questions?
Should we also be as cons...
Do you fail to see?
A little more, a little bit better.
Should that one not want?
And the world's all gone to war
Reduce our sorrows,
We are united for pleasure.
Distill all our hatreds.
And drink to what we remember.
Let's drink to be candor,
Let us unite for pleasure.
And if one day,
everything blossoms
again through love,
one remains in life.
Why risk all the hazards.
When our reverie loses it's memory?
Should it be we are so silly?
This is history in repeat.
Do you fail to see?
A little more, a little bit better.
Should that one not want?
And the world's all gone to war
Reduce our sorrows,
We are united for pleasure.
Distill all our hatreds.
And drink to what we remember.
Reduce our sorrows,
We are united for pleasure.
Distill all our hatreds.
And drink to what we remember.
Let's drink to be candor,
Let us unite for pleasure.

~Here is the English Translation~
"Why make so much turmoil
For tomorrows that sound fake
Why ask so many questions
Must we be so dumb
Would it not be enough to see each other
A little bit more, a little less bad
Would it not be enough to want
And the world all gone to war
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to our memories
Let's drink to stop lying
Let's finish for pleasure
And if one day
Everything blooms again
And by love
We remain alive
Why leave things up to chance
When our dreams loose their memory
Must we be so stupid
It's the story that's repeating itself
Would it not be enough to see each other
A little bit more, a little less bad
Would it not be enough to want
And the world all gone to war
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to our memories
Let's diminish our sorrows
Let's finish ourselves for pleasure
Let's distill our hate
And let's drink to stop lying to ourselves
Let's drink to our memories
Let's finish for pleasure"

I heard the three versions (How Far, Wie weit et En vie) and this is the better. Her french voice has the perfect tone for the darkness of this song.
@earlgrey243
I never knew there are others versions
@kamelotgames
@@earlgrey243 yeap, Quutamo are an instrumental version of that song.
@dmitritelvanni4068
Yeah I'm inclined to agree. And my French is definitely rustier and less practiced than my german... just something haunting about it in French. And lyrically, sounds more like something a French woman would feel lol. Or really anyone in the post modern world I guess...
@panzermagier
Fun thing is we see both faces in each video ( en vie and how far)
On the hooks

Une chanson intemporelle. Tout s'accorde, des musiciens à l'interprète. Ils auraient dû faire un album complet. 12 ans plus tard, j'ai toujours la petite larme 😿. Rares sont les musiques qui vous font autant d'effets.
@lilly8505
This is the 3rd version of this song I've heard lol x3
The English and german versions are sung by marta jandova
English is "how far"
German is "wie weit"
@uwetheiss970
You posted the same under the german version. Which one was now the third? The french or german version?
