Seeman
Apocalyptica Lyrics

Ein Sturm kommt auf
Und es wird Nacht
Wo willst do hin
So ganz allein
Treibst do davon
Wenn es dich
Nach unten zieht
Wo willst do hin
So uferlos
Die kalte See
Komm in mein Boot
Der Herbstwind hält
Die Segel straff
Jetzt stehst do da an der Laterne
Mit Tränen I'm Gesicht
Das Tageslicht fällt auf die Seite
Der Herbstwind fegt die Straße leer
Jetzt stehst do da an der Laterne
Hast Tränen I'm Gesicht
Das Abendlicht verjagt die Schatten
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst
Komm in mein Boot
Die Sehnsucht wird
Der Steuermann
Komm in mein Boot
Der beste Seemann
War doch ich
Jetzt stehst do da an der Laterne
Hast Tränen I'm Gesicht
Das Feuer nimmst do von der Kerze
Die Zeit steht still und es wird Herbst
Sie sprachen nur von deiner Mutter
So gnadenlos ist nur die Nacht
Am Ende bleib ich doch alleine
Die Zeit steht still
Und mir ist kalt
(kalt, kalt)
The song Seeman by Apocalyptica describes a person who is lost and alone in a dark, stormy sea. The singer tries to offer comfort and reassurance, inviting the lost individual to come aboard their boat and navigate through the storm together. The lyrics reflect on the fear of being alone, the longing for connection, and the powerlessness that comes with being at the mercy of nature. The imagery of the stormy sea and the changing seasons symbolize the unpredictability of life, and the inevitability of change and loss. The singer tries to offer solace by taking on the role of the steersman, someone who can guide the lost individual through the darkness and uncertainty.
The repeated refrain, "Wo willst du hin, so ganz allein?", which translates to "Where do you want to go, all alone?" emphasizes the theme of isolation and the fear of being abandoned, while the lines "Sie sprachen nur von deiner Mutter / So gnadenlos ist nur die Nacht" which means "They only talked about your mother / The night is merciless like that" touches upon the idea of grief and how people respond differently to loss. The lyrics of Seeman are very emotional, poignant, and demonstrate the band's skill in creating powerful, heart-wrenching music.
