The band members include lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist Bill Hubauer, bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner. The band played its first concert as ApologetiX in 1992, and its 1000th in 2007. All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their homes and attend church.
ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with (often comical) Christian lyrics. Some of their parodies include "Corinthians" (parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park), "Look Yourself" ("Lose Yourself" by Eminem), "Smooth Grandmama" ("Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm), "Smells Like Thirtysomething Spirit" ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana), and "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" ("Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen). Smooth Grandmama is considered to be their most well-known parody. While maintaining the integrity of fundamentalist "grannies," the song pokes fun at certain aspects.
ApologetiX gets their unusual name from the word apologetics, which means "the defense of the Christian faith." It is based on the Greek word for defense, apologia. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia") to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.

Don't Fear The People
ApologetiX Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Stephen didn't fear the people,
Not even when they stoned him to death
We can be like he was
C'mon baby
(Don't fear the people)
Baby, take your stand
And be ready to die
(Don't fear the people)
Baby, they're just men
When the fire was done, Nero burned Christians
Rome of old was full of men
Martyred for their Christianity
(Rome of old was full of men)
Although they tried they couldn't kill them anyway
(Rome of old was full of men)
The more that died the more that came to take their place
(Read in your history book)
And now the Coliseum is an empty place
(We can be like they were)
C'mon baby
(Don't fear the people)
Baby, take your stand
(Don't fear the people)
And be ready to die
(Don't fear the people)
Baby, they're just men
Harken to the one? who was God's own son:
Fear not man in his madness
Who if he killed your body couldn't go on
The Lord's the only one that you should fear
The person who first put you there
Who can certainly do something more severe
(When you're thrown in the gave)
C'mon baby
(That's the one to fear)
Defend the faith
(Like the martyrs who died)
Let's get back to the faith they had
(We can become like they were)
They had taken a stand
(We can become like they were)
C'mon baby
(Don't fear the people)
The song "Don't Fear The People" by ApologetiX encourages listeners to be brave in the face of persecution. The lyrics refer to historical events where Christians were persecuted and even killed for their faith, but they did not fear the people who were persecuting them. One example is Stephen, who was stoned to death for proclaiming the Gospel but did not fear his persecutors. The song also mentions the Christians burned by Nero in ancient Rome, who continued to stand up for their faith despite the dangers they faced. The lyrics remind us that the only one we should fear is God, who has the power to judge and destroy us.
The chorus repeats the phrase "Don't fear the people" to emphasize the message of the song. The song encourages listeners to take a stand for their faith, even if it means being persecuted or even killed. It reminds us that the martyrs who died for their faith were not afraid of their persecutors because they knew that their real home was in heaven.
Overall, "Don't Fear The People" is an uplifting and inspiring song that encourages listeners to stay strong in their faith even in the face of persecution. It reminds us that we can become like the martyrs who have gone before us and that we should not fear those who persecute us because our real home is in heaven.
