The band members include lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist Bill Hubauer, bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner. The band played its first concert as ApologetiX in 1992, and its 1000th in 2007. All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their homes and attend church.
ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with (often comical) Christian lyrics. Some of their parodies include "Corinthians" (parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park), "Look Yourself" ("Lose Yourself" by Eminem), "Smooth Grandmama" ("Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm), "Smells Like Thirtysomething Spirit" ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana), and "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" ("Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen). Smooth Grandmama is considered to be their most well-known parody. While maintaining the integrity of fundamentalist "grannies," the song pokes fun at certain aspects.
ApologetiX gets their unusual name from the word apologetics, which means "the defense of the Christian faith." It is based on the Greek word for defense, apologia. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia") to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.

You know I have proof
Our Lord was one too
So please love the Jews
Whoa... love the Jews
John was a Jew
And Mark and Matthew
So please love the Jews
Whoa... love the Jews
Someone may want
Some Bible proof
Romans 10:1, 11:2
James was a Jew
Peter and Andrew
And Bartholemew
So please love the Jews
Whoa... love the Jews
Paul was a Jew
Read Romans 9:2
The whole way straight through
Verse 3 -- love the Jews
Whoa... love the Jews
The song "Love the Jews" by ApologetiX emphasizes the fact that the Jews are loved by God and that it is important for humans to also love them. There is proof in the Bible that many of the key figures were Jews and that Christ Himself was a Jew. The lyrics implore listeners to follow His example and love the Jewish people as well.
The first verse of the song points out how loving the Jews is a natural conclusion when considering the religious affiliation of Jesus. The second verse continues this by listing off some of the authors of the gospels: John, Mark, Matthew, and Luke. All, except for Luke, were Jews. The evidence supporting this focus on loving the Jews, as mentioned in the third verse of the song, comes from the Bible itself. Romans 10:1 and 11:2 both contain specific mentions of the Jewish people.
The final verse of the song again points out how many of the key apostles were Jewish - James, Peter, and Andrew - as well as many other important figures, such as Bartholomew. Even the famous persecutor turned Christian, Paul, was a Jew, as is illustrated in Romans 9:2 and 3. This final verse therefore acts as a capstone to the song's message, that loving the Jews is not only necessary given God's love for them, but also because of the significant roles they played in the formation of both Jewish and Christian history.
