The band members include lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist Bill Hubauer, bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner. The band played its first concert as ApologetiX in 1992, and its 1000th in 2007. All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their homes and attend church.
ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with (often comical) Christian lyrics. Some of their parodies include "Corinthians" (parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park), "Look Yourself" ("Lose Yourself" by Eminem), "Smooth Grandmama" ("Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm), "Smells Like Thirtysomething Spirit" ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana), and "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" ("Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen). Smooth Grandmama is considered to be their most well-known parody. While maintaining the integrity of fundamentalist "grannies," the song pokes fun at certain aspects.
ApologetiX gets their unusual name from the word apologetics, which means "the defense of the Christian faith." It is based on the Greek word for defense, apologia. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia") to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.

(The Book of Esther)
Haman, oh, he was the one, you know
Haman, who wouldn't let us alone -- I got to
Say man, that guy would spit in my face
That fellow was sick; he could've wiped out our race
Haman, was cruel and insane -- Haman, he was kind of vain
But Esther was the queen and then she ... avenged it
So hang it on Haman cause his plan was surely wicked
I'm glad our sufferin' just finished
That mean, grumpy man was an ancient kind of bigot
But now our sufferin' just finished
'Cause genocide -- is not right
Haman -- oh when he saw Mordecai, he say
Hey, man, I can't wait till he dies, O.K.
Haman -- said "Jews, they won't last here"
He thought that Jews were scum, but Esther's one, so he's done
So hang it on Haman cause his plan was surely wicked
I'm glad our sufferin' just finished
'Cause the queen took a stand
'Cause this ain't no time for chickens
I'm glad she's lovely and pretty -- and Mordecai -- is all right
Oh Esther!
So hang it on Haman cause his plan was surely wicked
I'm glad our sufferin' just finished
That mean, grumpy man was an ancient kind of bigot
I'm glad our sufferin' just finished
Yeah the king caught Haman and his end was sorta sickenin'
He had to punish him quickly
Yeah, the queen took a stand
'Cause this ain't no time for chickens
I'm glad she's lovely and pretty - 'cause genecide -- is not right
Our sufferin' just finished, our sufferin' just finished
Don't forget! Ahhh, Wham bam hang Haman!
Our sufferin' just finished, our sufferin' just finished
Don't forget!
The ApologetiX song "Sufferin' Just Finished" is a parody of David Bowie's "Suffragette City," and tells the story of Haman, an ancient kind of bigot who sought to wipe out the Jewish people. The song recounts how Haman was cruel and insane, and how he conceived a terrible plan to kill all the Jews in the Persian Empire. However, the queen, Esther, took a stand against him and saved her people from genocide. Ultimately, Haman was caught and punished, and the suffering of the Jewish people came to an end.
The lyrics of the song are both humorous and insightful, as they offer a fresh take on the story of Esther and Haman from the Hebrew Bible. The song highlights the need for bravery and courage in standing up against injustice, and reminds listeners that genocide is never an acceptable solution to any problem.
Overall, "Sufferin' Just Finished" is a clever and engaging song that provides an entertaining and thought-provoking look at one of the most famous stories from the Hebrew Bible.
