Those who claim to have knowledge and insight believe they are living on a higher level of understanding.

That those who think can't kneel
They believe that intellectual reasoning and faith are mutually exclusive, and that one cannot be both a critical thinker and a believer.

In search of some reality beyond the gilded page
They seek a deeper and more authentic understanding of the world, one that goes beyond surface-level appearances and materialism.

Trapped in this ungodly hole, willingly detached
Despite their belief in higher knowledge, they feel trapped in a world that is spiritually empty and devoid of meaning, and they have willingly distanced themselves from traditional religious beliefs.

With insufficient facts one must think up theories there
In the absence of sufficient evidence, they must invent theories and explanations to try and make sense of the world.

To keep one's thoughts abstract
They prefer to keep their ideas and beliefs abstract, rather than grounded in concrete reality or empirical evidence.

Living on a timeline, the university
They view the university and its teachings as being primarily concerned with the progress of human history and knowledge, as reflected in the chronology of events.

Can't show you what's to be

Giving in to fake science, caught in a clever lie
Those who reject spiritual principles and values are misled by false science and deceitful ideologies.

All the world's in need of faith to see what's clearly there
To truly understand the world and its complexities, one must have faith in God and the spiritual principles laid out in the Bible.

There is evidence of God's handiwork and wisdom all throughout the natural world, from the beauty of a sunset to the intricacy of a snowflake.

He provided evidence outside the gilded page
God has given us evidence of his existence and his handiwork in the natural world, which is available to anyone who seeks it out.

In contrast to the previous lines, this line suggests that the university and its teachings are not concerned with historical accuracy or the true nature of historical events.

This line refers to the idea that we are all living within the confines of time and space, and that our existence is shaped by the events that have come before us and the ones that will come after.

The close of history
This line refers to the end of time itself, and the belief that the events of history will lead up to a final judgment and the beginning of a new era.
