The band members include lead singer and lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist Bill Hubauer, bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy "Vegas" Tanner. The band played its first concert as ApologetiX in 1992, and its 1000th in 2007. All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their homes and attend church.
ApologetiX rewrites secular songs with (often comical) Christian lyrics. Some of their parodies include "Corinthians" (parody of "In the End" by Linkin Park), "Look Yourself" ("Lose Yourself" by Eminem), "Smooth Grandmama" ("Smooth Criminal" by Alien Ant Farm), "Smells Like Thirtysomething Spirit" ("Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana), and "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" ("Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen). Smooth Grandmama is considered to be their most well-known parody. While maintaining the integrity of fundamentalist "grannies," the song pokes fun at certain aspects.
ApologetiX gets their unusual name from the word apologetics, which means "the defense of the Christian faith." It is based on the Greek word for defense, apologia. The word is used in 1 Peter 3:15, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer (defense or "apologia") to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect..." (NIV). Their logo, a triquetra, is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity.

Trinity
ApologetiX Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
If I sound confused at times, I will still believe in You
My mind it struggles to perceive Your mysterious unity
I'm a human - I guess my mind's too small
This kind of union's above it all
Little thoughts of men just can't comprehend
Mysterious God in trinity on high
The Father, the Holy Ghost and Jesus Christ -- my my my
Explanation's much too hard for me from information I've received
And so today my words are small -- they can't define my God at all
Praise to You, Thy will be done for You to me are the Holy One -- all right then
After this no more can be said -- that's the best I can get
If I sound confused at time, I will still believe in You
Though doubters somehow refuse to see
There is still a Trinity
In this song, ApologetiX parodies Led Zeppelin's "Thank You" to discuss the concept of the Christian Trinity - God as three persons in one. The singer acknowledges their limitations as a human in fully comprehending this mystery, but maintains their faith in God regardless. They acknowledge that explanations of the Trinity can be difficult to understand based on the information available, and ultimately conclude that the best they can do is give praise to God and accept the Trinity as part of their belief system.
The lyrics of "Trinity" ultimately highlight the importance of faith in Christianity despite the difficulties in trying to understand the divine. The concept of the Trinity is a core belief in Christianity and has been a topic of debate and discussion throughout its history. The song effectively conveys the idea that even though one may not fully understand the complexities of their faith, they can still hold onto it and praise their God.
