The Light
Apostle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
How many times
Must our families suffer
How many times
Must I watch my mother
Try to get by
While she starves and wonders
If healthcare was better
Would my legs still stutter
System equipped
With a sick intention
Kickbacks for doctors
Who don't pay attention
Meanwhile the vile
Dispense their millions
Ensuring
We keep this as our system
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
Is anybody paying attention
Probably not
Cause its a rigged system
Who benefits from
These decisions It isn't those
Who are just making ends meat
It seems
That everyone's thinking this
But isn't giving two shits
Cause they have never known
Anything better
Take a look around the world
Well their
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
How does it feel
When your called a liar
Told that pain's
Just part of your life
Well
How does it feel
While they keep you waiting
Just to tell you
That you are crazy
All of us
Well we must do something
'fore we're fucked
And we can't do nothing
Understand
That just doing nothing
Is the reason
We are so fucked the
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge
But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing
Lights are on
But their
Minds' are darkened
All my life
I have felt my coffin
All around us
Acquire knowledge

But don't stare
As the rich keep climbing

Overall Meaning

The song "The Light" by Apostle talks about the society we live in where people seem to have all the resources and knowledge, yet the majority of them seem to be lost and misled by those who hoard and misuse those resources. The first two lines, "Lights are on But their minds are darkened," set the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer talks about how people have access to so much knowledge and information but still remain ignorant and uninformed about important issues.

The pre-chorus, "All my life I have felt my coffin All around us, acquire knowledge But don't stare As the rich keep climbing" is a metaphorical representation of how people are dying slowly due to inequality and injustice in the society. Even though it's important to gain knowledge and awareness of these issues, it's not enough to just stare at them and do nothing while the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer.

The chorus repeats "Lights are on but their minds are darkened," showing that despite all of the advancements in technology and information, people are still blinded by their own ignorance and indifference towards important societal issues. The second verse talks about the sick intention of the system, where kickbacks for doctors who don't pay attention result in the poor not getting proper healthcare.

The bridge of the song is a call to action, asking people to do something before it's too late. It talks about the importance of taking action and speaking out against the rigged system before it's too late. The song is a thought-provoking commentary on the state of society and the need for change.
