Though she has been recording since she was 22, and had a few chart successes with Henri Rene's orchestra in the early 1950s, she is perhaps best known for her 1963 duet "Deep Purple" with her brother Antonino LoTempio (singing under the stage name Nino Tempo) that went to No.1 on the Billboard charts. The song won the 1964 Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Recording. Subsequent recordings were much better received in Europe and Great Britain than in America, although the duo managed a Top 10 follow-up to "Deep Purple" with "Whispering" (the Paul Whiteman standard) and scored a moderate hit with "All Strung Out" in 1966.
She is also known for the 1959 song "Teach Me Tiger," which caused a minor uproar when it was released for its sexual suggestiveness.
I'm in Love Again
April Stevens Lyrics

Why am I... Like a racehorse running wild
Why am I... In a state of ecstasy
The reason is 'cause something's happened to me
I'm in love again, and the spring is comin'
I'm in love again, hear my heart strings strummin'
I'm in love again, and the hymn I'm hummin'
I'm in love again, and I can't rise above it
I'm in love again, and I love, love, love it
I'm in love again, and I'm darn glad of it
Good news!
Someone sad had the awful luck to meet
Someone bad, but the kind of bad that's sweet
No one knows what a glimpse of paradise
Someone who's naughty showed to someone who's nice
I'm in love again, and with glee I bubble
I'm in love again, and the fun's just double
I'm in love again, if I got in trouble
I'll be cursin' one person I know
I'm in love again, I'm a lovebird sigin'
I'm in love again, I'm the spring lamb springin'
I'm in love again, weddin' bells are ringin'
Let's go!
The lyrics to April Stevens’ song “I’m in Love Again” describe the feeling of being deeply in love, even to the point of experiencing euphoria. The singer expresses her happiness in metaphors, describing herself as a happy child and a racehorse running wild. The cause of her joy is revealed in the chorus. She’s “in love again,” and it’s brought the “spring” back into her life. The lyrics continue to express her elation, describing her as being in a state of “ecstasy” and singing the “Huddle Up, Cuddle Up Blues.”
The second verse further emphasizes her infatuation, stating that she loves being in love and that nothing can change that. It also reveals that the reason for her happiness is meeting someone who is “naughty” but “sweet.” The bridge of the song repeats the chorus and then adds some final metaphors. The singer is a “lovebird singin’” and a “spring lamb springin’” and can hear “wedding bells ringin’.”
Overall, the lyrics express a joyous, carefree attitude that comes from being in love. Any trouble that might come can be dealt with, and the singer is happy to just enjoy the feeling for now.

Thank you SO much for posting this extremely rare performance by April at the start of her career! Many will know April for her recordings with her brother Nino Tempo in the 1960's, but this was her very first hit record. Written by Cole Porter, her single was made with Henri René and His Musette Orchestra and charted at number 6 in Billboard in 1951. This was April's only appearance on the Sullivan show.

I always enjoy these early Toast of the Town kinescopes. It's a miracle that they exist given the networks callous attitude toward preservation at that time. She was born Caroline LoTempio in 1929 and only died this year (April 17), just a few days short of her 94th birthday (April 29). Her younger brother Antonino (Nino) is still alive (88 years old).
