I Like To Rock
April Wine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well alright,
Somethin's got you goin' tonight
Doin' all she can, alright
Come on can't you see
That when we all let go
We get higher on rock 'n' roll

Journey to the stars, rock 'n' roll guitars, yeah
I like to rock
Some like it hot, baby
I like it humid
I like to rock, I like to rock

I can sing, that's the kind of life for me
Want it loose and fancy free
Come on then let's go
And it'll be alright
We can rock 'n' roll all night

Journey to the stars, rock 'n' roll guitars, yeah
I like to rock
Some like it hot, baby
I like it humid
I like to rock, I like to rock

Ooh, I like to rock
Some like it hot, baby

I like it humid
I like to rock, I like to rock

Overall Meaning

I Like To Rock by April Wine is a classic rock song that glorifies the power of rock and roll music. The lyrics contain a lot of excitement and enthusiasm that one cannot resist. The lyrics speak about the ability of rock and roll music to transport you to another world altogether. The line "Journey to the stars, rock 'n' roll guitars" speaks about how rock music can take you on a journey of your own, which is infinite and has no bounds. The song is about letting go of all inhibitions and just enjoying the music; it is about that euphoric feeling one gets when the music is so good that it takes one to another level.

The chorus, "I like to rock, Some like it hot, baby, I like it humid, I like to rock," reveals what the singer likes when it comes to music. The singer acknowledges that everyone has different tastes when it comes to music, but for him, nothing compares to rock music. The singer likes it "humid," which could mean he likes that sticky, sweaty atmosphere at a rock concert, or he likes how rock music can turn up the heat and get the adrenaline pumping. The song as a whole is about being carefree and letting loose, enjoying the music and the moment.

Overall, I Like To Rock by April Wine is a high voltage, fast-paced rock song that captures the essence of rock and roll music- its energy, its vibrancy, and its ability to transport one into a different dimension. It is a song that can make anyone feel alive and ready to take on the world.

Yeah, Ricky made a mistake with the April Wine, “I Like To Rock””, but he made up for it by asking Alex to play that “Diane Sawyer” song. That must be off their “Motion Pictures” album. (purposeful mistake)

Alex Lifeson is a great sport. All the guys in Rush have a great sense of humor (RIP Professor). Alex did play a little bit of that “Diane Sawyer” song of their’s though. That was nice of Ricky to give Alex a buck thirty six for cab fare, even if Lifeson had to pick it up off the ground.

He did call Alex a drunk male prostitute, but Alex called him a kidnapper, so that’s only fair. There is a big difference between borrowing someone and kidnapping them. I’m not sure what it is, but Ricky told me there was. It isn’t Ricky’s fault that Alex is one of those big rockstar, living in his little dreamworld, playing his big fucking guitar. He should be used to this stuff, he is in a rock band you know?

Just like Ricky pointed out before flipping Alex the finger, “he started it!”. Alex did start it all when he said, “I’m not a ticket agency!.” What kind of answer is that? Ricky even gave him the option of doing it the easy way or the hard way. It’s not Ricky’s fault that Alex chose the hard way. Ricky was ready with the duct tape though, because Ricky had heard that Lifeson was one of those rock stars that aren’t very approachable.

I love Rush. They not only make some of the best music ever, but they all were down to earth people, with no big egos. That’s why they were able to stay together for so many decades as friends, not just band mates. How many rock groups can say that?

Lifeson really helped make this skit funny and played some of that “Diane Sawyer” song. I really like that song. I’ve seen them play that in concerts many times, but I have never actually seen Diane Sawyer at any of the concerts?

RIP Myles Goodwyn, lead singer. What a voice! Classic rock? More like timeless. Their songs give the vibe of youthful exuberance no matter what era you grew up in. Thanks for the music you left us. Gonna crank it up all day today in your memory Myles.
