Kitty Chaser
Aqueous Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got an eye for nothin'
And everything at once
Depending on the hour
I see things from high up
I look down and I look out
People come and they go
The business to my right is growing so well on it's own
And through the plastic red I seeA family of 19
But by tomorrow you can bet
Another family tree
They're always on the clock but
You'll never see them go
It happens in the darkness
That way you'd never know-

Explosions in the sky
Reflected in their eyes
Another way to get to know the tiny street you live on
Explosions in the sky
Rejoice cause' no one died

Another way to get to know the tiny street you live on

And I exchange most everyday
Just while the children sing
watch for glass beneath your feet
and there's one other thing
A few blocks down they turned around
But it won't be too long
Until they shift and spin
And sing another country's song
Explosions in the sky
Reflected in their eyes
Another way to get to know the tiny street you live on
Explosions in the sky

Rejoice cause' no one died
Another way to get to know the tiny street you live on

Overall Meaning

In Aqueous's song Kitty Chaser, the lyrics describe the perspective of someone who is observing their surroundings and the people within it. The singer speaks about their eye for nothing and everything at once, highlighting the idea that they notice the details and the bigger picture simultaneously. Depending on the hour, the singer sees things from high up, perhaps physically or metaphorically, which can give them a different perspective of their environment. They observe the people as they come and go, their routines and habits. The "business to [their] right" is growing and thriving, yet they come to realize how it is part of the continuous cycle of people and businesses. They explain how they see a family of 19 through plastic red, perhaps through a window or some other barrier. They also note how another family tree will come and go by tomorrow, speaking to the fluidity of human existence.

The singer then shifts the focus to the "explosions in the sky", which they see reflected in the eyes of the people around them. This phrase could have a literal or metaphorical meaning, as we can imagine fireworks lighting up the night sky or emotions sparking within individuals. The lyrics suggest that observing these explosions can be a way to get to know the "tiny street" they live on, as they provide insight into the community's experiences and emotions. The phrase "rejoice cause' no one died" adds an eerie implication to these explosions, as though they might have the potential for destruction.

Lastly, the singer notes how they exchange most every day while the children sing. They advise to watch for glass beneath your feet, perhaps suggesting that there is danger and messiness in the world that we need to be mindful of. They then mention how a few blocks down, someone turned around, suggesting a shift in direction or perspective, which may not be permanent. The lyrics ultimately suggest that observing and understanding the people and events around us can provide a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.
