Vocalist Aidan Moffat and multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Middleton met in Falkirk, bonded over their mutual love for Drag City recording artists such as Smog and Will Oldham, and began a collaboration in 1995. The band is completed by violinist Jenny Reeve and cellist Stacey Sievewright. Arab Strap's marked characteristics include frank and forthright lyrics delivered in a Scottish brogue.
Aidan Moffat and Malcolm Middleton confirmed the rumours about the end of Arab Strap on 8th September 2006. They celebrated their Ten Years of Tears with a tour through the UK and the rest of Europe. After UK/Europe, they made a short secret tour in Japan as the last of Arab Strap. In 2016, however, they have reunited a decade after their breakup and will be touring throughout the year 2017.
Little Girls
Arab Strap Lyrics

I will never lick you the way I do so well.
You now weaken your voice.
Ah, hey.
I will never talk to you, do what you will.
You will never make me smile the way you did so well.
You now meet with your boys Ah, hey.
My thoughts will never turn to you.
I'll walk through this world making little girls happy,
But not you, no, not you. Do what you will
"I was totaly convinced I was gonna fuck that up."
The lyrics to Arab Strap's song Little Girls evoke a sense of bitter rejection and defiance towards an unnamed lover. The singer makes it clear that they will never romantically love or desire the person they are addressing, despite their attempts to win him over with sexual favors. The line "I will never lick you the way I do so well" is particularly striking as it highlights the disconnect between physical pleasure and emotional intimacy. The use of the word "never" emphasizes the finality of the singer's rejection and their refusal to be swayed.
The singer goes on to say that even though the person they are addressing may try to make them happy or make them smile, it will ultimately be futile because they will never evoke any real emotional response from the singer. The line "I'll walk through this world making little girls happy, but not you, no, not you" is a sharp contrast to the selfless tone of the rest of the song. It suggests that the singer finds joy in bringing happiness to others, but not to the person who is trying to win their affections. The song ultimately ends on a note of self-doubt, with the line "I was totally convinced I was gonna fuck that up," suggesting that the singer may not be as confident in their rejection as they initially seemed.
