In the Name of God
Aragon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Claim you're just, killing women and children
Fight, when you choose to fight, hide in a cave when you're hunted
Like a beast spawned from hell, utilizing fear
Chosen by god or a coward insane?
Stand up and show me your face!
A religious army
Fight without a uniform and hide in the crowd
Call it holy, call it just
Authorized by heaven
Leave your wounded as they die, and call it gods will
Run when its time to pay, fear consequence of your action
Reappear, when you're almost forgotten
Dream of a world in peace, yet you cause pain and destruction
Kill your own, a response of your actions
Captured in all you lies, fear is in your eyes
Creature who's gone insane, your war is in vain
Trapped in a cage of stone, we'll destroy your home
Consequence of your action
The lyrics of Aragon's song "In the Name of God" criticize the hypocrisy, violent tendencies, and obsessive religiosity of extremist groups and individuals who commit acts of terrorism or war in the name of their god or faith. The first stanza sets the tone by calling out the tendency of these groups to hide and pick their battles carefully, as well as their willingness to kill and harm innocent civilians. The second stanza questions whether such acts come from a place of divine calling or mental illness, and challenges the perpetrators to show their faces and take responsibility for their actions.
The third stanza highlights the self-destructive and self-righteous nature of such groups, who are often driven by religious fervor and a desire to belong to a cause, even if it means sacrificing their own lives. The stanza also alludes to the use of guerrilla tactics and the blending in with civilian populations to evade detection and prosecution. The fourth and final stanza speaks of the inevitable consequences of such actions, including retaliation, destruction, and the ultimate defeat of such groups and individuals.
Overall, the song's message is a call for accountability and an end to the cycle of violence perpetuated by extremism and fanaticism, regardless of the guise in which they are presented.

Amicalement , musicalement Votre !
